Ushers Needed for High Holy Days
Every year during each of the High Holy Days services, a dedicated crew of volunteers acts as ushers. We help seat worshipers, hand out books, keep order and work in that very visible background to help services go smoothly.

Many of our ushers have been helping for a lot of years and they have formed the backbone of our group. Over the years, we have welcomed new members and have seen some retire. Many of us have are "empty nesters" and some have young school age children.

To the point, we really do need some new members. And we are an equal opportunity group. Men and women wanted. Ages 16 and up. We even have a few younger members as young as 13 who help us when they accompany their usher parent.

If you are interested in joining us, please call or send me an email. Some ushers work multiple services and some members just one. Some prefer helping when their family is seated in the congregation and others prefer helping when their families are not at services. The choice is always yours.

Please contact Alan Kivnik at alan@kivnik.com or 508-877-6151 if interested.
Selichot
"Preparing our Hearts and Minds for the Days of Awe"
Saturday, September 5, 8 p.m.

Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur can be life-enriching days that shape the year-to-come as one of blessing and growth. To accomplish this, however, requires some spiritual preparation.

At Shir Tikva to come together as a community the Saturday evening before Rosh HaShanah for a late-night spiritual investigation into the themes of Days of Awe.

This very special evening offers an array of learning sessions designed to nurture our hearts, minds, and souls, a dessert reception; Havdalah; and a beautiful Selichot service.

Our Torah scrolls are dressed in their magnificent white mantles, representing the High Holy Day themes of Malchuyot (majesty/the present), Shofarot (redemption/the future), and Zichronot (memory/the past). Everyone is invited to join us.
