David Snyder Memorial Concert:
Amerent Quartet

Shir Tikva is delighted to host an amazing musical event for all ages.

Lauded for their "intelligence" and "immensely satisfying" playing by the New York Times, the Amernet String Quartet has garnered worldwide praise and recognition as one of today's exceptional string quartets.

The Amernet String Quartet is devoted to recovering and rejuvenating the rich musical heritage created by the Jewish people during the tumultuous twentieth century. We give voice to the people of the Jewish diaspora whose art has been silenced, suppressed, or neglected as a result of their Jewish heritage. The Amernet presents diverse concert programs which include works by earlier Jewish composers as well as those of the St. Petersburg School in turn of the century Russia; the musicians of Terezin; emigres to England and America.  The concert at Temple Shir Tivka will also feature a piece by contemporary classical composer David Stock.

Adult Ed Presents: Rabbi Blumberg

LET'S HAVE THE CONVERSATION!

Most of us would prefer not to open the topic. It is a difficult subject to broach with elderly parents. Our children often deny that there will ever be a need.

But deep in our hearts we know that it is a necessary to think about our wishes for medical care if we or a loved one become gravely ill BEFORE there is a crisis.

To help us with the difficult task, our congregation -- with some guidance from our Rabbi Emeritus, Herman Blumberg, - is offerings a series of two interactive workshops:

STARTING THE CONVERSATION

Thursday, March 19, 7:30 p.m.

Sponsored by the Adult Learning Committee

Designed for all who want to begin or further their thinking about choices to be made if gravely ill - for themselves, for spouse or partner, for elderly parents.

A pizza dinner will be offered for $10 per person at 6:30.
The program will start at 7:30 and there is no cost for the program alone.

Tzedakah Project

GOOD NIGHT, SLEEP TIGHT TZEDAKAH PROJECT

Please join our preschool families in their annual Good Night, Sleep Tight tzedakah project, which will take place between March 15-March 22.

Give a warm, cozy night's sleep to a child in need by donating new or like-new kids' pajamas, bedding, and toiletries (wipes, diaper rash cream, etc.).

All items will be donated to The Grow Clinic for Children at Boston Medical Center, which provides comprehensive specialty medical, nutritional, developmental and social services and dietary assistance to children from the Greater Boston area referred with Failure To Thrive (FTT) by their primary care physician. In addition to providing clinical services, the Grow Clinic advocates for policies that decrease the number of children in need. The Grow Clinic is part of BMC's Department of Pediatrics.

Andrea Berlin: Revolt! Why the Jews Took on Rome

Sunday, April 12, 2015, 9:00 a.m.

The Adult Learning Committee Presents:

Prof. Andrea Berlin, James R. Wiseman Chair in Classical Archeology, Boston University

Revolt! Why the Jews Took on Rome.

What is the real story behind the animosities that eventually led to the catastrophe of the Jewish Revolt against Rome? Why would a small population without military capabilities or political allies dare to challenge a ruling power of such might? New archaeological evidence reveals a growing cultural divide beginning about two generations before the Revolt broke out, and sheds new light on the prehistory of this explosive event.

Join us for this spellbinding piece of history, from an expert in the field.

Please contact Marcus Cohn, Chair with any questions at mecpc1@gmail.com".
