The Wayland Clergy Association's Interfaith Intern, Melissa Rudd of Harvard Divinity School, will offer a three-week series on "Empathy" as an interfaith practice,

Sessions will look at traditional and contemporary texts and practices from several religious/spiritual traditions for insight on becoming more compassionate people in the world.  All are welcome, from any background.

Women's Kallah: Can you (and your sewing machine) join us?

Our theme this year is "Kumzitz" - the Yiddish word for singing around the summer camp-fire. It reflects joy and connection, music and friendship. Workshop offerings this year include a hands-on craft, yoga and chanting, Yiddish women's poetry, and will conclude with a camp song-session and s'mores!

Professor Jacob Meskin will provide an overview and a "Taste" of "Understanding Antisemitism", the course he will be offering this coming Fall at TST.

Meskin (see brief bio here), a veteran Me'ah teacher and teacher-trainer, is noted for blending high-level intellectual and spiritual content with an open, engaging, and humorous teaching style that encourages conversation and interaction. 

Scheduled to meet every other week and designed specifically for sophisticated adult learners, "Understanding Antisemitism"  aims 1) to acquaint students with the ancient and medieval roots of AntiJudaism in both the Christian and the Islamic traditions, and 2) to describe clearly how, in more recent times and in particular in the nineteenth century, various developments and individuals helped to transform these inherited antiJudaic roots into the modern phenomena of political and racial Antisemitism.   With this historical and conceptual framework in place, it becomes possible to understand the contemporary outbreak of various kinds of Antisemitism, whether they stem from fanatical forms of nationalism or of religion.

Breast cancer is the most common malignancy affecting women and has and will occur in many families in our community. A panel discussion will explore what we currently know and hope to discover and a subsequent panel will address the critical areas of psychological and social support for patients and their families.

Also participating in the discussion, moderated by Dr. Bachman, will be Dr. Timothy Ernst, Medical Oncologist, Charles River Medical Associates; Dr. Jami Rubens, Diagnostic Radiologist, Newton Wellesley Hospital; Dr. Gayle Tillman, Radiation Oncologist, Newton Wellesley Hospital; Dr. Rita Sadowski, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Metrowest and Newton Wellesley Hospitals.

College Scholarship Funds Available for Greater Boston Residents

BOSTON, MA, February 27, 2015- The Combined Jewish Philanthropies Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for financial aid for the 2015-2016 academic year. The Committee awards financial assistance to financially needy undergraduate students whose permanent address is in a CJP service community.

Aid is in the form of a grant or an interest-free loan. The average award is $3000.Awards are based on documented financial need.

The deadline for applications is April 30, 2015 for upperclassmen and May 15, 2015 for Fall 2014 freshman.

The Blessing of a Skinned Knee: A Book Discussion Group 

For parents of children under the age of 8

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the book and the first reading assignment upon registration.

Cost includes appetizers and dessert.

Join other parents for a facilitated discussion based on the popular book by Wendy Mogel, PhD. Using Jewish teaching and values as a starting point, the discussion focuses on the issues that arise in families of Jewish or interfaith partnerships who share goals of raising self-reliant, responsible and compassionate children.
