Adult Ed Presents: Rabbi Blumberg

LET'S HAVE THE CONVERSATION!
Most of us would prefer not to open the topic. It is a difficult subject to broach with elderly parents. Our children often deny that there will ever be a need.
But deep in our hearts we know that it is a necessary to think about our wishes for medical care if we or a loved one become gravely ill BEFORE there is a crisis.
To help us with the difficult task, our congregation -- with some guidance from our Rabbi Emeritus, Herman Blumberg, - is offerings a series of two interactive workshops:
STARTING THE CONVERSATION
Thursday, March 19, 7:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Adult Learning Committee
Designed for all who want to begin or further their thinking about choices to be made if gravely ill - for themselves, for spouse or partner, for elderly parents.
- Discerning my wishes.
- What choices of medical intervention do I have?
- How and when to open the subject with those near to me?
- What's in a name: Health Care Proxy and Advanced Directives?
CONSIDERING THE HARD QUESTIONS
Sunday, March 29, 7:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Reyim
For those among us wanting to provide guidance to our family regarding the hardest life and death decisions.
- Finding the Tipping Point: When is more treatment futile?
- How do I define "Quality of Life" ?
- Heroic Measures: My choices and options.
- Can Jewish Teachings guide us?
A case history of a patient with late stage Dementia will provide a concrete framework for our exploration.
Please let us know that you are coming........
Rabbi Blumberg will be pleased to tell you more about these workshops and their relevance for you: hermanblumberg@gmail.com

Adult Ed Presents: Jacob Meskin

Sunday, March 15, 9 a.m.
Professor Jacob Meskin will provide an overview and a "Taste" of "Understanding Antisemitism", the course he will be offering this coming Fall at TST.
Meskin (see brief bio here), a veteran Me'ah teacher and teacher-trainer, is noted for blending high-level intellectual and spiritual content with an open, engaging, and humorous teaching style that encourages conversation and interaction.
Scheduled to meet every other week and designed specifically for sophisticated adult learners, "Understanding Antisemitism" aims 1) to acquaint students with the ancient and medieval roots of AntiJudaism in both the Christian and the Islamic traditions, and 2) to describe clearly how, in more recent times and in particular in the nineteenth century, various developments and individuals helped to transform these inherited antiJudaic roots into the modern phenomena of political and racial Antisemitism. With this historical and conceptual framework in place, it becomes possible to understand the contemporary outbreak of various kinds of Antisemitism, whether they stem from fanatical forms of nationalism or of religion.

Mitzvah Project for Justin and Jared Lista

Please help Justin & Jared Lista with their Bar Mitzvah project to support displaced and homeless families of Natick and Framingham in need of assistance
Family Services Coalition is an all-volunteer coalition that provides a wide range of services to meet the needs of homeless families placed in local motels.
Due to recent cuts in state and federal housing there has been a substantial increase in homelessness in Massachusetts. Currently, an average of nearly 2,100 homeless families each night is housed by the state in motel rooms. We are asking for your help to assist 60 families residing in local Natick and Framingham hotels.
During February and March we will be organizing a collection campaign to assist these families in our community. Working with Family Services Coalition our goal is to collect toiletries * for distribution to these families who are in need of our assistance.
Our hope is for you to help these families with your donation of toiletries * . * Body Soap, deodorant, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner, tooth-brush, toothpaste, floss.
There will be a box located in the TST lobby during February and March to collect your donations.
