Year End Giving

A candle is a small thing. But one candle can light another. And see how its own light increases, as a candle gives its flame to the other. You are such a light. Moshe Davis and Victor Ratner

Dear Friends,

Chanukah is just around the corner and is a wonderful time not only to celebrate with family and friends but also a time to celebrate what those people mean to us. We hope that you will celebrate our temple community by making an end-of-year gift to the Temple Shir Tikva Annual Appeal. As you consider your end-of-year charitable giving, please celebrate TST with your financial support.

When we light our menorahs we are reminded of the miracle of light, the oil lasting for eight nights. As there are no greater miracles than the children in our lives, we invite you to honor the special miracles in your life by making a gift in their honor during Chanukah. Pick a night of Chanukah and celebrate TST by giving Tzedakah to the Annual Appeal and taking time with your family to discuss the importance not only of Tikkun Olam, Repairing the World, but also what Shir Tikva means to you. Every donation made in honor of your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or other special children in your life- will be listed in the February edition of Hineni, with the children's names, if you wish.

Your continued generosity creates a connection between your family and the breadth of offerings the temple is able to provide, including read more...

Miracle Kitchen

It's that time again! TST has committed again this year to serving dinners once a month at Pearl Street Cafe and Cupboard. As most of you know, Pearl Street is a food pantry that opened three years ago in the old RMV building in downtown Framingham.  It also serves meals twice a week to homeless and low-income individuals and families. The meals are prepared and served by volunteers, and we have committed to providing 5-10 volunteers once a month.

Our next date is December 23, and we need 5-10 volunteers, so please consider signing up. Volunteers need to be there from 5-7:30 p.m. Adults and well-behaved kids 10+ are welcome.

If you can sign up, please email the following information to Wendy Mishara at wwmishara@comcast.net : your name, how many people you're bringing and your cell phone number.

Miracle Kitchen - Serving Food Christmas Week

Tuesday, December 23, from 4:15 - 7 p.m.

Temple Shir Tikva will be preparing and serving food for the Miracle Kitchen located at 34-35 Concord Street, Framingham.

The Miracle Kitchen is operated by the Salvation Army in downtown Framingham. They serve dinner every weekday evening for 60-100 people in need.

During the Christmas holiday Temple Shir Tikva is going to take over for St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Wellesley. St. Andrew's Episcopal Church serves dinner the 4th Tuesday of every month.

We need people to make large amounts of food to feed dinner to 100 people. The goal is to make food that "sticks to your ribs." We will all make shepherd's pie.

Please click here for more information and contact Beth Greenblatt, at 617-416-2584 or beth@bettyblattdesigns.com to get involved.

Sisterhood Book Club

Thursday, January 29- 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Join us for our next Sisterhood book club! We are reading A Guide for the Perplexed by Dara Horn.

Software prodigy Josie Ashkenazi has invented an application that records everything its users do. When an Egyptian library invites her to visit as a consultant, her jealous sister Judith persuades her to go. A century earlier, another traveler arrives in Egypt: Solomon Schechter, a Cambridge professor hunting for a medieval archive hidden in a Cairo synagogue. Both he and Josie are haunted by the work of the medieval philosopher Moses Maimonides.  An engrossing adventure that intertwines stories from Genesis, medieval philosophy, and the digital frontier, A Guide for the Perplexed is a novel of profound inner meaning and astonishing imagination.

Join us for wine, dessert and a lively discussion, whether you finish the book or not.
