ALEX CICELSKY is a remarkable teacher of Jewish ecological traditions. He is a senior staff member and founder of the Center for Creative Ecology (CfCE) and a founder of Kibbutz Lotan.

Founded in 1983 by graduates of the Reform Youth Movement of America, Kibbutz Lotan is an extraordinary place: one of Israel's two Reform kibbutzim.  Located in the Southern Arava desert, their community's mission is to live Jewishly, equitably, and in an environmentally sustainable way. Besides the environmental research work they do and the innovative practices they have put into place, their CCfCE runs a myriad of educational programs for post high school, college and post graduate students. They also run programs for American, Israeli and international youth groups and international (including Palestinian) visitors of all ages who come to experience the community and to learn firsthand about the kibbutz's sustainable building techniques, recycling, organic farming, water recycling and waste management, permaculture and philosophy of eco-village living.

His teaching throughout the weekend will be an invigorating and eye-opening exploration of the TORAH OF THE EARTH for adults & kids alike. Join us!

Interfaith Working Group

Thursday, October 23, 7 p.m.

The Interfaith working group grew out of the Chazon initiative. Our charge is to increase the understanding and relevancy of Jewish living for our Interfaith families, including members with intermarried children, by reviewing all aspects of our offerings from the Interfaith perspective to ensure that Shir Tikva is a welcoming community for all of its families.

We need help with a number of programs and your ideas about projects.

We will meet monthly, click here for a list of other meeting dates.

For more information contact Heather Meterparel at hdmeterparel@gmail.com  or Mary Beth Rettger at mb.rettger@gmail.com.

Family Promise Kick-off Meeting

Sunday, November 2, 9:15 a.m.

TST will be hosting Family Promise Metrowest Families in January. Time to Prepare!

Shir Tikva is honored to be a host congregation for Family Promise MetroWest. We will be hosting up to four homeless families during the first two weeks of January (1/4-1/18) and during the week of May 31.  It will take "many hands" to make this endeavor a successful one for both our Guests and for our Congregation.

Join us on to learn more about what our hosting weeks will look like and what volunteer opportunities (big and small) there are for adults and youth. A Family Promise representative will be on hand to provide an "official" training at 10:30 for any congregants interested in working directly with FP Guests. Please note: All volunteers over the age of 12 must attend a training in order to work directly with Guests.  There are volunteer opportunities that do not involve working directly with Guests (such as set-up and break down, meal shopping and preparation, etc.), for which training is not required. If you are unable to attend the TST training but would like to volunteer to work with guests, there are other Family Promise Metrowest training sessions in the area.

Click here for the training schedule.
