Greetings!
Feeding the World Responsibly

This is our first quarterly e-newsletter - bringing to you key stories on sustainability initiatives at Agrium - where our vision to help feed the world responsibly means not only helping to grow more food, but to do it in ways that protect the environment, support economic vitality, and enhance communities.

Our Future Depends on Agriculture
Agricultural production will need to increase by 60 percent in order to meet the new demands of food, feed, fuel and fibre for the predicted world population of nine billion by 2050. Agriculture plays a key role in helping to stimulate growth, secure livelihoods and reduce poverty in a way that is environmentally sustainable.

Sustainably feeding an expanding global population is one of the greatest challenges the global community has ever faced. The challenges we face are complex and will not be solved quickly. A commitment to learning and continual improvement is imperative.  To learn more about how Agrium plans to meet this challenge, view our Sustainability Video.

Partnership Brings Positive Change - Agrium & Millennium Promise

Share, educate, advocate, and change the world. That's what the Millennium Villages Project is actively engaging in to help address the root causes of extreme poverty.

Agrium first partnered with Millennium Promise in 2009 to support and develop a sustainable approach to crop production in sub-Saharan Africa. The goal was to provide farmers with access to nitrogen fertilizer (urea) to increase and improve food production. Using this approach nourishes the African people, but importantly, it creates the wealth that sustains and supports local education, health care and environmental protection. Since the partnership with MP began, Agrium's annual financial contribution of $1.1 million dollars (US) is helping more than 25,000 farmers in five countries- Ethiopia, Malawi, Uganda, Nigeria and Senegal-receive the fertilizer and agronomic support they need to become self-sufficient.  CLICK HERE to read more.

Agrium's Marseilles Terminal Makes Donation to Fire Department

Agrium believes in supporting the communities in which we live, work and conduct business. In this spirit, we strive to build and maintain positive relationships within our communities. We focus our support in the following four areas: Youth, Environment, Civic, Arts & Culture, and Health & Wellness.  We see ourselves as residents, not tenants and engaging with the community in this way is one way we are able to give back.  Agrium's support to the Fire Department in Marseilles is just one example.  CLICK HERE to read more.
