Night Vision: Nocturnes in American Art, 1860-1960 is now open. Be sure to see this stunning exhibition, which critics at the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Boston Globe have recommended as an arts highlight for the summer season. In addition to daily tours at 2 pm by the Museum's student guides, please join us for two "nocturne" concerts by faculty from the Bowdoin International Music Festival (July 2 and 23) and special gallery lectures by the exhibition's curator Joachim Homann (July 16) and art history professor Linda Docherty (July 28). While you are here, don't miss the new installation Gilbert Stuart: From Boston to Brunswick that explores the famous portraitist's years in Boston and his 1821 trip to Maine. There's much to see at the Museum this summer. We look forward to welcoming you.

On view through October 18, 2015

This is the first major museum survey dedicated to scenes of the night in American art from 1860 to 1960 -- an era not yet illuminated by electricity to the beginning of the Space Age.
Opens July 9, 2015

This installation explores Stuart's work during the last twenty-three years of his life and suggests his centrality in constructing a pantheon of American likeness and achievement.

Over the course of a year, the French video artist Michel Auder, who has been based in New York since 1970, pointed his camera into the dark to record the nocturnal view from a Manhattan apartment. His beautifully edited and densely layered three-channel video presents a contemporary perspective on the themes of Night Vision.
