Dear Library Member,

There will be plenty of Halloween activities this week at the Library to help get you into the spooky spirit, highlighted by a live performance of "Tales of Edgar Allan Poe."

Presented by the Hudson Shakespeare Company on Saturday, October 29 at 2 pm, this play centers around high school students who accidentally get locked in one of Poe's former houses. To pass the time, they read Poe stories. Unbeknownst to them, the ghosts of Poe, his wife and his publisher are trapped in the house as well. As the teens read the tales - The Raven, The Black Cat, and The Tell Tale Heart - the ghosts act out the stories. The play is appropriate for ages 13 and up. Don't miss this haunting performance by this respected theatrical troupe!

In addition, we'll also be hosting a children's Halloween Party and Parade on Friday, October 28 at 11 am. Our littlest patrons will enjoy crafts and activities and then parade around the Library for treats. Plus, we'll be showing the classic 1984 film "Ghostbusters" that day at 1:30pm. We will also be participating in the Township's annual Spooktacular celebration at the Municipal Center on Saturday, the 29th from 11-2spm, offering various craft projects and treats.  We will have family pumpkin painting later that day in the Library at 2:30 pm; please bring your own pumpkin(s) and wear suitable clothing.

Aside from these holiday events, we'll present an Exploring Your Digital History session on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm. This program will examine how to use  pictures and movies to add depth, detail, and drama to your family's saga.  Whether you're writing a family memoir or just like digging into history, experience the joy of connecting with the past as you learn how the world helped influence your family.

This week, our Teen Advisory Board (TAB) will be working on bottle cap murals to decorate the Library on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 pm. TAB is a service group for kids in grades 6-12 that has a voice in what goes on in the library and does fun projects that benefit our community. No sign-up is required, and students can attend whichever projects and meetings fit their schedule.  This is a great opportunity to express your creativity and earn community service hours as well.

We're pleased to offer a seminar on Starting Your Own Business on Thursday, October, 27 from 10 am to 3 pm. This in-depth program, presented by a representative from the NJ Division of Taxation, will cover the following topics: types of business ownership, the registration process, reporting business income and understanding the sales and use tax. The presenter will be available for questions.  Registration is required here.

And last but certainly not least, we'll be hosting another Home School Book Club session on Friday, October, 28 at 11 am. Our first program was very well-attended, so we recommend registering here. This week, the kids will be discussing the book Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library and then participating in a scavenger hunt.

Have a spectacular week.  See you in the Library!

Regards,
Nancy Cohen, Library Director
