Dear Library Member,
After months of planning and preparation, our Outreach Van will launch service on Tuesday! Be sure to wave to our staff when you see the Van go by!
Grab a pumpkin spice latte and head to the Library this week for some of our wonderful programs. Here's a small sampling:
On Mon. Oct. 17th at 7pm, we'll host a Day of the Dead Glass Painting program for kids in grades 6-12. Dia de los Muertos is a holiday for remembering and honoring those who have passed. It is a festive, joyous time of celebration and this project will allow kids to remember and honor loved ones, pets or favorite stars. Register here.
We'll have two interesting programs on Tues., Oct. 18th. First, at 4pm, there will be a "Buying Stuff Online". While online shopping offers a convenient way to buy almost anything from the comfort of your home, there are also some risks involved. This session will provide buying tips as well as examine ways to protect yourself and your financial information. Then, at 7pm, we will host a session on Tricks and Tips for Writing a Novel. Presented by the Garden State Speculative Fiction Writers, the discussion will focus on the different tricks and tips to get your ideas for a novel out of your head and down on paper. Learn about the various methods writers use and try out some writing exercises to get your ideas flowing. Please bring your laptop or paper and pen. There will be a "Good Reasons to Hate Taxes" presentation on Thurs. Oct. 20th at 7pm. Tax attorney and CPA Richard Price will examine issues such as who is responsible for the tax system, how eliminating a tax can actually increase an individual's tax bill, and how elected officials can influence the tax system. A question and answer session will follow. Mr. Price was a former tax executive with the world's largest CPA firm, specializing in complex tax transactions, before opening his own practice 20 years ago.
Featured next in our ongoing "Meet the Artist" lecture series is Frida Kahlo, the colorful, passionate Mexican artist who became one of the 20th century's most celebrated painters. This session, on Fri., Oct. 21st at 10:30am, will explore her life, her beloved heritage, and her uncompromising depiction of the female experience and form.
Lastly, on Sun. Oct. 23rd at 2:30pm there will be an Inquire Science presentation on The Importance of the Heart. Michelle Golba-Norek, RN, from the Raritan Bay Medical Center, will demonstrate the parts and functions of the heart using a heart model. Attendees will learn how emergency staff respond to medical emergencies involving the heart, and will have an opportunity to perform the life-saving CPR procedure on a mannequin. Light refreshments will be served. This program is appropriate for adults and middle and high-school students.
Have a spectacular week. See you in the Library!
