Dear Library Member,
To quote Baseball Hall of Famer, Willie Stargell, "I love September, especially when we're in it". And we, and you, are especially "in it" this week of September with a slate of programs for all ages and interests.
On Wednesday at 10:30 am, we are starting a new monthly initiative to better serve adults with special needs and their caregivers. Our Sensory Time for Adults combines various activities such as stories, music, games and crafts to give the participants opportunities to refine their communication and social skills. The theme this month is Fabulous Fiesta and celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month! See you there.
Also on Wednesday, at 7 pm, we will be holding a FAFSA Workshop for teens and parents. Lisa Helyes of College GPS will give you an overview of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid process. Her guidance will help you avoid costly mistakes, as well as highlight FAFSA changes and the new timeline for filing your application. Past attendees have remarked how valuable this workshop was to them so please put this on your calendar if you are applying for student aid.
Discover how easy it is to create a website! WordPress is freely accessible software that will let you start a website in minutes. Customize and extend it for free, and share your thoughts, or your business, with the world. WordPress Class is Wednesday at 6 pm. All are welcome.
As a bona fide chocoholic, I can attest to the lure of sugar! Join Certified Health and Life Coach, Francesca Locicero, as she discusses why we crave sugar and how we can control the cravings at Solutions to Sugar Cravings, Thursday at 7 pm. Learn tips for substituting or eliminating sugar and for keeping track of excess sugar in our modern diet.
We are extremely pleased to have a special program called Get the Buzz on Zika on Saturday at 11 am. This is an extremely timely and valuable program with the Zika virus making headlines every day. Lori Karabincak from the Middlesex County Department of Public Safety and Health will discuss the facts and myths surrounding Zika. She will offer tips for mosquito bite prevention and will offer a Q&A session at the end of the program.
Also on Saturday we have two other very worthwhile events for you:
- Rainforest Revelations: Exploring the Habitat. This is part of the Inquire Science series and will feature Carol McCallum, ecologist from Jenkinson's Aquarium speaking on the rainforest ecosystem and the importance of preserving it. 2:30 pm.
- Join the American Sewing Guild for a workshop to make a rope basket. For information about supplies to bring, please call Regina Hyatt at 732-804-3036.
Coming up soon we'll be hosting FIRST Lego League meetings. Registration information will be provided shortly. To get this effort off the ground, we are happy to take Lego donations starting immediately. Give your old, unwanted Legos a new home! Thanks very much for your generosity. Have a spectacular week. See you in the Library!
