Dear Library Member,

Thanks to your votes, the Old Bridge Public Library was voted the best public library in the county in last year's Home News Readers Choice poll!  We'd like to win this vote again in 2016 to make it two years in a row.  Vote for us through the link above, and through the link on our website home page (www.oldbridgelibrary.org).  Support your Library and make Old Bridge Township shine two years in a row!!

The central Library will be closed on Monday, July 18 and Friday, July 22 due to necessary work to complete the installation of our emergency generator. Once that work is complete, the central Library will have uninterruptible power which will help us stay open to help the community during power outages.  The central Library will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with regular hours of 10 am to 9 pm.  Our Laurence Harbor branch will be open from 9 am to 5 pm on July 18 and July 22 with additional staff to assist you.

We have several mouth-watering food programs this week to whet your mid-summer appetites:
  • Too hot to cook?  Come learn how to make a few appetizers, main dishes and desserts ... all without turning on your oven or stovetop!  At Hot Summer, Cool Foods, recipes will be provided.  Open to adults, and youth over 12.  Limited seating.  Registration required. Important note:  dairy, wheat, nuts and other possible allergens may be used.  Tuesday from 7 to 8 pm.
  • Everyone has their own favorite kind of pizza toppings. Join us as at Pizza Your Way as we make pizza from scratch using herbs and vegetables from our Idea Farm garden. For grades 4-6 on Wednesday from 2-3 pm .  Registration required.
  • Also on Wednesday, but at 10:30 am, Nutritionist MaryRose Agel will present a lecture on Power Foods.  Make a place for these on your plate, and you'll gain a new respect for the health benefits they bestow, from lowering blood pressure to fighting belly fat.  No registration necessary.
  • On Saturday at 2 pm we have Raw Food Desserts. Watch a live "cooking" demonstration of delicious desserts made simply and without an oven, using ingredients made from fruits and nuts!  Registration required.
On Wednesday, the Teen Advisory Board will meet at 7 pm.  Volunteer for fun projects that benefit our community. Have a say in deciding what events, books, space and more the Library has for teens. No sign-up is required, and you can attend whichever projects and meetings fit your schedule. Community service time is given for meetings and events. Grades 6-12.

Play it safe on the Internet. Learn how to create strong passwords, understand online privacy issues, and discover the safest ways to engage in online shopping.  Come to Online Safety and Privacy Class on Thursday from 4 to 5 pm.  No registration necessary.

Get an overview of the financial aid process (including the FAFSA) and learn about college planning and avoiding costly mistakes. College and Financial Aid Workshop is useful for any students in grades 9-12, but is especially relevant to juniors who need to get financial aid and FAFSA in order this fall. No registration required.

Come to the local chapter meeting of the American Sewing Guild on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm.  Bring a knit pattern of your choice, double-knit material, stretch needle, thread, scissors and sewing machine.  You may also come and observe.  Professionally made t-shirts will be presented as well as guidance to make your own.
For more information, please contact Regina Hyatt of the ASG at 732-804-3036.

Thanks so much for your patience during the two days the central branch will be closed.

Have a spectacular week.  See you in the Library!

Regards,
Nancy Cohen, Library Director
