Dear Library Member,

Celebrating the Fourth of July is a wonderful summer tradition. Many of us barbecue with family and friends, go to a parade and watch fireworks.  It's special because it's Independence Day, the day we celebrate the founding of our country.

President John Adams stated, "I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty; it ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more."  Even though Adams said this over 200 years ago, it holds true for our Fourth of July celebrations today!

There's a lot we have planned for you this week to enjoy at the Library:

Award-winning international performer and dramatic spinto tenor, Salvatore Chiarelli will perform popular, traditional and classical Italian / Neapolitan songs as well as Italian opera, Italian/American love ballads and more. The beauty of Salvatore Chiarelli's voice will transport you to a small Italian village on the Adriatic Sea or to an outdoor café in Rome. "His voice is inviting, heart-warming, vibrant and seductive", said Roger Malouf, assistant conductor of the NYC Metropolitan Opera.  Join us for an extraordinary Second Saturday concert on July 9 at 2:30 pm and bring a donation for the Old Bridge Food Pantry if possible!

Join the Jedi Training Camp and become one with The Force.  Register for the first camp and we will have you down for the rest.  Every Wednesday in July.  7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27 from 3 to 4 pm.   Ages 7-12 only please!

Create and edit documents from any computer, without the need for expensive software.  Cloud apps such as Google Docs and Dropbox help you to be productive wherever you go, save and share your files with ease!  Come to Cloud Apps Class on Wednesday from 3 to 4 pm and make your document creation much easier!

Linux is an operating system (similar to Window 10 or Windows 8 and Mac OS X).  It is the software "brains" that manages all of the hardware resources associated with your desktop, laptop or handheld device.  In our unique Linux Camp topics will include: installing CentOS7, basic Linux tools, managing disk storage constructing file systems, firewalls and and so much more!

Note:  Linux Camp will be held over 4 consecutive Sundays: July 10, 17, 24 & 31 from -4 pm.
SUGGESTED PRE-REQUISITE:  some familiarity with computer languages.  Registration required.

Learn to make easy, healthy and refreshing smoothies for the summer at Teen Summer Smoothies on Thursday from 7 to 8 pm!  Grades 6-12. Registration is required. Please list any food allergies or restrictions in the comments box when registering.

Celebrated author Michael Swanwick will be special guest speaker on Saturday at 12 pm. Michael has won numerous awards including the Nebula and is a 5-time Hugo Award winner. Michael will teach a simple way of analyzing why a story isn't working and what needs to be done to fix it by "triangle analysis". Michael will be the guest of honor at this year's Worldcon in August. This will be a wonderful lecture, especially for aspiring writers.

Have a wonderful and safe Fourth of July.  See you in the Library!

Regards,
Nancy Cohen, Library Director
