Dear Library Member,

Popular local singer/songwriter/ musician Richie Balin will be here on Saturday, June 11th at 2:30 pm for our free Second Saturday concert. Richie will show his versatility as he plays the guitar, keyboard, saxophone and trumpet and will perform original songs as well as selections from pop, country and classic rock music. A NJ native, Balin is a recording artist with five records that have appeared on the national music charts. He regularly performs around the country in casinos including the Golden Nugget and Foxwoods, as well as clubs, cruise lines and corporate events. Don't miss this great show!

We're happy to announce that one of the Library's online resources has been enhanced. Pronunciator is a fun and free way to learn any of 80 languages with self-directed lessons, live teachers, movies and music. Since there is no substitute for live human interaction when learning a language, Pronunciator now offers ProLive, with  256 scheduled half-hour conversation classes each week, with each led by a qualified instructor. Each class has a maximum of five students, ensuring  personalized attention. Classes are organized by skill level: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. There are also special classes just for kids. ProLive is available on Apple, Android and Kindle Fire devices, as well as supported web browsers. More information can be found here.

The Library is pleased to partner with AARP to offer a Smart Driver Course on Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday, June 8th from 10am - 1pm. Topics discussed will include: the effects of medication on driving; how to reduce driver distractions; techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way, and roundabouts; and how to adjust driving to compensate for age-related physical changes.

Participants must attend both sessions to successfully complete the course, and may be eligible to reduce up to two points from their driving record and/or receive an auto insurance premium reduction. The class is open to drivers of all ages, and the fee, which will be collected at the door, is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Cash, or checks payable to AARP, will be accepted. Registration is required by calling 732-721-5600 x5033 or clicking here.

The Library's free six-week workshop series on Chronic Disease Self-Management begins this Tuesday from 1 - 3:30 pm, continuing through July 19th (no session July 5th). Those suffering from, or caring for someone with chronic conditions such as arthritis, heart disease, osteoporosis or diabetes are invited to attend. The sessions will allow participants to learn how to manage symptoms, communicate effectively with doctors, make daily tasks easier, and will provide tips on healthy diet and exercise. The course is offered through the Middlesex County Office of Health Services and registration is necessary by calling the Library or clicking here. Participants are asked to attend all six classes and will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program.

Additionally, on Wednesday, June 8th at 1 pm, there will be an All About Lupus seminar, presented by Dr. Nandini Moorthy, Chief of Rheumatology at Bristol Myers Squibb Children's Hospital (at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital) in New Brunswick. This informational session will address the symptoms and treatments of this autoimmune disease as well as tips for managing it successfully. Attendees are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch.

Has your home or business network ever been hacked?  Whether yes or no you might want to come to our Wireshark class on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.  Wireshark is a very powerful and most popular network analyzer for Windows, Mac and Linux. It's a tool that is used to inspect data passing through a network interface which could be your ethernet, LAN or WiFi.  It is open source and will help optimize your data security.  Taught by a systems engineer, this is a new addition to our Idea Farm makerspace events calendar!  Register here right now.

Have a wonderful week. See you in the Library!

Regards,
Nancy Cohen, Library Director
