Dear Library Member,
A special treat is in store for you on Saturday, May 14 at 2:30 pm. The Two Counties Symphonic Band will be performing for our May Second Saturday concert. The Two Counties Symphonic Band is a 25-piece orchestral band made up of musicians from Middlesex and Monmouth Counties. Fifteen members of the Band will be coming to the Library and will be led by Conductor David Crosby. Featured music genres include pop, classical, Broadway, patriotic and big band jazz. A wonderful time will be had by all!
While there are many factors to consider when selecting plants, the amount of sunlight your garden receives is crucial to its success. On Monday from 11 am to 12 pm, Christy Van Horn, Rutgers Master Gardener, will provide tips to help you select perennials that work best for your garden's location. Ms. Van Horn was the executive director of New Jersey Future, a statewide non-profit that promotes land use planning. She was also appointed to the State Planning Commission by Gov. James Florio.
Get some tips to keep your pets safe when Dr. Chiosi from the Sayrebrook Veterinary Hospital speaks on Wednesday at 11 am. He will discuss preventive health care such as vaccinations, the importance of physical exams, flea/tick/heartworm preventions and more!
On Wednesday at 4 pm we will pretend to be camping as we make edible campfires and listen to not so scary stories from around the world. This story celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Another program for kids and tweens brought to you through our Dia grant funds.
Trophies and online accomplishments aren't just for video games anymore. According to HASTAC (Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Alliance and Collaboratory), "digital badges are a powerful new tool for identifying and validating the rich array of people's skills, knowledge, accomplishments, and competencies. Digital badges inspire new pathways to learning and connect learners to opportunities, resources, and one another." Find out how to earn digital badges as you discover new skills and hobbies. Come to Digital Badges Class on Friday at 2:30 pm.
What's the buzz? The rescheduled Honeybees and Apitherapy program will take place on Sunday at 2 pm. Dr. Pat Kotlar Paslawsky, beekeeper, farmer, chiropractor, and health enthusiast will show various honeybee hive components and products, such as honey, beeswax and royal jelly. You'll learn how these have been used for human health improvements for decades.
Have a wonderful and fun week! Look me up when you come to the Library.
Regards,
