Dear Library Member,
I'm happy to report that our re-carpeting project is progressing as planned with beautiful results. This week, we'll be carpeting the children's department, so we do expect some areas will be unavailable on Monday and Tuesday. However, we have temporarily moved some children's materials to other locations and will do our best to make them available to you. If you have any specific questions, please call 732-721-5600 x5033.
On Monday, Feb. 29th at 10:30am, we will offer adults our Scratch Coding with the MaKey-MaKey for Beginners class. Learn about coding basics for the popular maker site Scratch, and discover how to make your own creation to use with a MaKey-MaKey. In this hands-on-class, participants will learn how to add backgrounds and sprites(characters) as well as effects and motions to the characters. You'll then see your results as we try out the new coding creations with a Makey-Makey. This class is open to all adults, but attendees should feel comfortable using a keyboard and mouse. Registration is required, please call 732-721-5600 x5033 or click here.
Our ESL classes continue on Tuesdays at 7pm and Wednesdays at 10 am and there are still a few spots available. These free classes are open to the public and provide an informal approach to conversational English. Our trained volunteers provide a welcoming environment to encourage students to speak freely and with confidence. The 90-minute classes will continue through May, and students are encouraged to begin as soon as possible.
Another new class we're offering is Tumblr on Friday at 11 am. Tumblr is a website that lets users easily share the amazing things they find and create online. Find a community and participate with your own microblog. This class requires no registration. Just drop in!
The monthly meeting of the Garden State Speculative Fiction Writers (GSSW) will meet at the Library this Saturday, March 5 at 11 am. At noon author Myke Cole will talk about audiences' new and different expectations, and writers' need to be cognizant of them for career success. The GSSW is a multi-genre writers group catering to the needs of writers from all walks of life. They offer monthly meetings, critique groups, guideline and sample copy libraries, national short story contests, and much more. Members also receive the acclaimed monthly newsletter, The New Jersey Graveline, containing market news, reviews, essays, interviews, writing tips and humor. We encourage local writers to come by and get to know some members.
| We need plastic bottle caps! Please drop yours off at the Circulation desk starting Monday. Help us help kids create a recycled art mural. |
Have a spectacular week. See you in the Library!
Regards,
