This Week at Your Library:
January 18
|
Dear Library Member,
In 1983 President Ronald Reagan signed a bill creating a U.S. federal holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Observed on the third Monday of January, it was first celebrated in 1986. January 18 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day this year. The Library has many resources about Dr. King, and others, who contributed so much to racial equality. Check out films, books and other digital resources and learn about Dr. King and the time period in which he lived.
On Wednesday, we will be hosting our first blood drive of 2016. As Martin Luther King Jr. stated, "Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve". The blood drive is a wonderful opportunity to serve others with a critically needed blood donation. The Library will have fine/fee amnesty up to $10 for those who donate. The blood drives starts at 1 pm and ends at 6:45 pm.
Among many other great programs this week:
- Prezi: Online Presentations on Tuesday at 2:30 pm. Prezi is a web-based slide presentation and storytelling tool. Zoom in and out of your presentation and leave ordinary slide-based presentations behind. Register below.
- Explore the Solar System on Tuesday from 6 to 7 pm. This program for grades 3-5 will make the sun and planets in our system come alive. Presented by a local science teacher!
- Join us for Gentle Yoga on Thursday at 7 pm. A certified yoga instructor will discuss the many benefits of yoga. Bring a mat or towel and dress comfortably for some gentle exercises!
