Dear Library Member,
According to the College Board, the average cost of tuition and fees for the 2015-2016 school year is $32,405 at private colleges, $9,410 for state residents at public colleges, and $23,893 for out-of-state residents attending public universities. Sending children to college often puts a substantial financial strain on families. Reduce your stress on Wednesday at 7 pm when we present a College FAFSA Planning Workshop. Lisa Helyes of College GPS will help you prepare for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). You will learn about the college admission and financial aid processes and discover college funding options. Please join us for this valuable workshop!
For those in our community who would like to speak English more fluently, in-person registration begins on Monday, January 11 for our next FREE English as a Second Language (ESL) set of classes. You will learn in small groups led by trained volunteers. These classes run for 13 sessions. Classes are open to Old Bridge residents only and start on February 16 for Tuesday evening classes and February 17 for Wednesday classes. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer ESL tutor please call is at 732-721-5600 x5033.
The IRS will be sending select public libraries only a small complement of tax forms this year. The Old Bridge Public Library has not yet received any forms. When they arrive closer to the end of the month, we will be receiving only various 1040 forms and a small amount of 1040 instruction booklets. These and all other IRS tax forms may be found at www.irs.gov. New Jersey forms may be found at http://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/forms.shtml.
In Scratch Coding with MaKey-MaKey learn the behind the scenes coding to the popular maker site Scratch, and discover how to make your own creation to use with a MaKey-MaKey circuit board. In this hands-on-class, you'll learn how to add backgrounds, and sprites (characters) and add effects/motions to your sprites and much more!
At the end, we'll give your coding creation a try with the MaKey-MaKey and see how it all turned out. Pre-Requisite: attendees should feel comfortable with using a keyboard and mouse. For ages 9-12 on Sunday, January 17 at 2 pm. Register here.
Get a new gadget at the holidays? Explore your gadget's capabilities and technology. Drop in on Wednesday starting at 7 pm for New Tech Drop In with questions or just to have fun geeking out. For all ages. No registration required.
