Dear Library Member,
Orson Welles caused a nationwide panic on October 30, 1938 with his Mercury Theater broadcast of War of the Worlds - a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth based on the novel of the same name by the great H. G. Wells. Those who believed the broadcast was fact, packed the roads, hid in cellars, loaded guns, even wrapped their heads in wet towels as protection from Martian poison gas. In honor of the 77th anniversary of this incredible and socially significant broadcast, the Garden State Speculative Fiction Writers (GSSFW) present their own adaptation of this broadcast on Saturday, October 17 at 2:30 pm. A group of seven GSSFW members will perform their adaptation incorporating live sound effects while wearing period costuming. Included in the cast are Patrick Lundrigan (Boonton), Jennifer Persson (Raritan), Gary Frank (Wayne) Fred Doot (Fairlawn), Tom Joyce (Marlton) and Ron Lottermann (Town). Come and experience an important and thrilling event in history. Free and open to all.
