150th Anniversary  Alice in Wonderland Scavenger Hunt

Dear Library Member:

Oldies will come alive with the Jersey Sound seven-piece band. The band will provide an afternoon of entertainment all ages will enjoy. Jersey Sound was selected to perform at Frankie Valli's Man of the Year Dinner in 2006 and Tommy DeVito's (founding member of the Four Seasons) birthday party in 2008.  Please come to the Library and enjoy one of New Jersey's most sought after bands, Jersey Sound, on Saturday, October 10 at 2:30 pm (doors will open at 2:15).  Funded by the Cultural Arts Committee.  Free and open to all.

Join local science teacher, Audra, for fun, interactive experiments about the weather!   Observe your surroundings, learn cool facts about weather and how it effects you each day.  For grades 3 through 5 on Tuesday, October 6 at 5:30 pm.  Please register here.

Critically acclaimed author, Charlotte Bonelli, will speak about her book Exit Berlin on Wednesday, October 7 at 7 pm.  The book presents a family saga of escape from Nazi Germany after Kristallnacht through letters and personal accounts.  Charlotte Bonelli will present a vantage point rich with historical context, from biographical information to background on U.S. immigration laws, conditions at Vichy internment camps, refuge in Shanghai, and many other topics, thus transforming the letters and accounts into a riveting narrative.  Please join us for this special presentation.  Free and open to all.

This week's Friday Night Fright film will be Poltergeist at 6:30 pm on October 9.  Look out for other frightful films such as Insidious on our calendar.  Also on Friday night at 7 pm will be a Lego Construction Challenge at 7 pm for grades 3-12.  Both programs are free and open to all.

Upcoming Idea Farm activities are:
  • Drop-In Sewing Workshop on Monday a 7 pm
  • Crochet and More on Tuesday at 7 pm
  • Safety Class on Wednesday at 3:30 pm
  • Intro to 3D Printing Class on Thursday at 7 pm
  • Raspberry Pi Class on Sunday at 2 pm
Register here for the Safety, 3D and Raspberry Pi classes.

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the publication of English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson's (under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll) Alice's Adventures in Wonderland the Library will be hosting a themed scavenger hunt starting Sunday, October 11.  This activity is for children of all ages ending with a prize drawing on Sunday, October 18. Free and open to all.

Have a wonderful week and see you in the Library!

"Throughout my formal education I spent many, many hours in public and school libraries. Libraries became courts of last resort, as it were. The current definitive answer to almost any question can be found within the four walls of most libraries."
