This Week At Your Library: June 30
|
I'm writing this from the American Library Convention, where I have been looking at how the Library can better meet the changing needs of the Old Bridge community.
One question keeps popping up: Over the next many years, we will be replacing worn out furniture, investing in collections, evaluating floor plans and workflows - but the missing piece of this puzzle is how YOU, as a member of the Library, use our facility - and more importantly, are there ways you would like to use the Library that are challenging or impossible? Without feedback from you, our community, we can't succeed in our mission to connect you with knowledge and be a space for your use.
So, please tell me what works for you here at the Old Bridge Public Library, or it there are options you wish were open to you in terms of space, facilities, and collections. I can't promise immediate change, but I can promise that when changes do get made, everyone's input will inform them.
Do you mainly study here? Research? Meet with friends? Are the programs at other libraries you wish we had, or ones you wish we would retire to make room for new offerings? Does the furniture meet your needs, or do you wish we had seating that worked better for your use of the building and its contents? Do you visit other libraries because of things they have that we lack?
Please let me know!
Thanks for your input, and have a GREAT 4th of July!

"The library is not, as some would have it, a place for the retiring of disposition or faint of heart. It is not an ivory tower or a quiet room in a sanitarium facing away from the afternoon sun. It is, rather, a command center, a power base. A board room, a war room. An Oval Office for all who preside over their own destinies. One does not retreat from the world here; one prepares to join it at an advantage."
