This Week At Your Library: June 16
Summer Days at the Library: Science and Scenery

  • This upcoming weekend is our Summer Reading Kickoff for all ages! This year's theme is "the Big Idea" - Science!

We will have live music by Beatles cover-band The Wag, an Albert Einstein lookalike contest, and our Mad Science program to celebrate the launch of our Summer Reading 2014 program.

Why take part in summer reading? I mean, besides the great programs and prizes? Well, because it stops loss of reading skills in students over the summer break AND increases the reading skills a student ends the school year with!

We have a summer reading program for all ages, not just kids. We encourage you to reconnect with the joy of reading for fun, for enrichment, and for self-directed learning.

  • Summer is also a great time of year to take photos, be they of exotic vacation spots or across the varied vistas of New Jersey. We're considering hosting a photography club here at the library to swap tips, review work, discuss retouching digital photos, and potentially display work in the Library. If you're interested in such a gathering of photography fans from amateur to pro, let me know!

  • On Sunday, June 22nd we will have our "Growing Your Vegetable Garden" program with Rutgers Master Gardener and Old Bridge Community Garden Steering Committee Member Kathy Krug. Come by and learn how to create a vegetable garden and maintain it as part of our Idea Farm programming.

Regards,
Darren Miguez, Library Director
