Library Resource Update: Variety - The Children's Charity
More exciting library updates! 

Last quarter we announced the addition of a special collection of Safe Spaces anti-bullying and anti-bias books, and today we are happy to announce that we will also be adding a wide range of Quirky Kids resources.

These items will be added to a special Variety - The Children's Charity section in the CCRR library and are all related to assisting families of children with extra support needs. We would also like to say a big thank you to Variety - The Children's Charity for making this addition possible.

Child Care Capital Funding
-2016 APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN-
The provincial Major Capital Funding program for the Creation of New Licensed Care Spaces is now accepting applications for the 2015/16 year. The program is available to help offset the costs associated with the creation of new licensed child care spaces and non-profit child care organizations may be eligible to receive up to $500,000 while private sector organizations may receive up to $250,000.

These funds can be used towards:
  • the purchase of land, commercial, or residential space
  • building a new facility
  • site development costs
  • renovation to a building or classroom
  • and other costs
Please see the ministry's page for grant program guidelines, forms, and a full list of eligible and ineligible items.
 
The deadline to apply is 4:30pm, Friday, February 26th 2016.
All application packages must be received by the Child Care Capital Funding Program by the application deadline -applications by email or fax will not be accepted. 
A Guide for Welcoming Syrian Refugees and their Children
      
With Canada's influx of Syrian refugees, many programs can expect to provide care for refugee children in the coming months. Attached is a great resource of information that will help you and your team:

- familiarize yourselves with Syrian culture

- understand the effects of trauma and culture shock and methods of response to them

- practical tip sheets that can be used straight off the page

Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives - the CCRR's parent organization - recently launched a brand new, online volunteer opportunities database. Featuring more than 100 volunteer positions from over 60 local organizations, the site makes it easier than ever before to get involved in the community. Find your cause at


Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG), located in the Caring Place at #190-7000 Minoru Blvd., is a hub for volunteering and giving. RCRG's Senior Community Support Services department delivers services that help older adults stay independent longer by addressing isolation, mobility, and healthy aging. Services include Shopping, Senior Peer Counselling, Seniors Information & Referral, and through the Richmond Better at Home program, Transportation, Friendly Visiting, and Light Housekeeping.  Services are offered in several languages.
