Summery projects

Summer is well and truly here with sunshine as well as the odd thunderstorm. Most of us don't want to knit big cosy jumpers at this time of year so we have found some nice summery patterns for you.

Classic Plaits by Dieuwke van Mulligen is a pattern for a relentlessly cheerful pair of socks which would look great with a pretty summer dress.

Do let us know about any other patterns you have spotted.
Blocking Tools

This is the time of year when many of us are knitting or crocheting shawls and wraps for the cool summer evenings.
The exciting thing about making this kind of project is when it is finished and you can block it.  From a rumpled piece, a bit like an ugly duckling, a beautiful swan will emerge.  An accessory you can be truly proud of.
KnitPro has a range of tools to help you with your blocking.
Blocking Mats - our mats fit together to accommodate many different sizes and shapes.
Blocking Pins - we offer individual pins for tricky corners and sets of pins for straight edges.
Blocking Wires - if you have a really large shawl to block you might find our wires a very convenient way to block the longer edges.  They can also be secured to your mat using individual T pins.

We would love to see pictures of your shawls on our Facebook page.
Worldwide Knit In Public Day

This Saturday, 18th June, is  Worldwide Knit in Public Day and we know many of you will be attending events across Europe but did you know how this annual event got started?

World Wide Knit in Public Day was founded in 2005 by the wonderful Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company. Knitting, or indeed crochet, can be a solitary activity so it's nice to get together with other like-minded people.

WWKiP Day is  a unique happening in that it's the largest knitter run event in the world. That's because it is knitters like you decide to hold your own event and organise it under the WWKiP Day banner.  Every event is different, reflecting the diversity of knitters themselves. Over the years there have been local events in Australia, China, England, Finland, France, Ireland, Norway, South Africa, Sweden, United States and so many more countries.

Whatever kind of event you attend remember it is really about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way.

You can view the WWKIP Day map here.
UK Hand Knitting also have a map of events here.
