Last weekend was quite a "doozy" for both Churchill Downs and St. Francis!

Thursday night we had the annual 7th/8th grade formal dance, "The Masquerade Ball," graciously hosted by Hope and Morton Boyd at their Gingerwoods Reception Hall in Prospect. I can't tell you what a "feel-good" event this was! The kids went against form and danced practically every minute of the night (after the initial flurry of tons of pictures)! The masks created by the kids and Ms. Duechle added a mysterious touch to the night, and the decorations by our parents were elegant as always. A new tradition was started this year too: the coronation of the 7th Grade Prince and Princess, and the 8th Grade Queen and King! The kids decided this should be drawn randomly, which was not only wise, but immensely popular. Deafening cheers rang out for our court: Alexa Von Feldt (brand new to St. Francis - what a welcome!), Reid Varda, Eva Borders, and Matthew Isham, respectively!
HUGE thanks are in order to 8th grade parents Kay Chandler, Susan Borders, Laura Crawford, and Bob Smedley (DJ extraordinaire!), and all the other parents who contributed to the success of the dance. And, of course, thanks to Ms. Wallace and Ms. Koloff for helping me chaperone. The best indicator of how successful this dance was is that every single 7th and 8th grader attended! This speaks volumes to our kids' buy-in to their school community and pro-social attitudes. They made us all proud.

Afterwards, the 8th graders came back to school for their annual lock-in. Chaperones Mr. Bertke and Ms. Denny reported the evening (LONG evening) was an unqualified success.

Add to that another successful Derby Camp led by the indefatigable Walter Denham, with additional chaperones Tina Brown and Andrew Frechette, and it all adds up to a weekend of "epic" fun, countless volunteer hours, and appropriate behavior by our students. I think that makes us all "winners"! Enjoy the pictures!

On behalf of everyone here at St. Francis, we want to thank everyone who participated in the Give Local Louisville Campaign through the Community Foundation on Tuesday, May 6th. Due to your generosity, St. Francis raised $31,195 in one day! We could not be more thrilled to have been a part of this amazing day for all of our local charities.

We would also like to thank the Community Foundation of Louisville and its supporting sponsors LG&E and KU Energy, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kentucky, and Churchill Downs for making this day possible.

Parent Thank You
Please join us for breakfast and a special "thank you" assembly on Friday, May 16th at 8:05 a.m., at the Goshen Campus.
So many of you have volunteered your time and talents in the lunchroom, as a room parent (rep), on one of the numerous event committees, for the events at school, on the Parent Association, in the bookstore, and on and on...
Please join us and let us thank you in person! You won't want to miss this touching tribute!

Avoid the summer slump!
Summer Break is just around the corner! If you are looking for a way to keep your children academically engaged over the summer months, please consider purchasing Summer Solutions Workbooks. Each practice book contains 30 lessons along with Help Pages and an answer key for self-checking. The books can provide the necessary review and practice that allow students to retain important math and language arts skills. You can find more information, including sample lessons, help pages, and list of skills here.  It is recommended that the students complete a lesson three times per week over Summer Break. There are a variety of workbooks to choose from. If you would like to place an order, click here.  If you order by May 18th, the workbooks will come right to school and then into your child's backpack! These workbooks are only $11 each, and $1 from every book sold goes to St. Francis! Please contact Ann Mundt
if you have any questions.

GOT DIRT?

Then make sure to bring your cars, trucks, and
Conestoga wagons to the Wendy's at 4955 Old Brownsboro Road this Saturday for the annual Student Council sponsored car-wash! The  2014

3:00 p.m. Tell a friend and come on by!
