Spring Break NO SCHOOL

Reed Gabhart, Head of Goshen Campus

Reed Gabhart
Head of Goshen Campus
As I noted last Friday, several of us are feeling a little "lighter" after last week's "Save It or Shave It" assembly, courtesy of the We Act Club.

You'll see a "before" shot in the photo collage that was taken at Morning Meeting with a group of grizzly "Samsons". Several male teachers (including yours truly) grew their facial hair for about a month, while some even braver souls agreed to have their heads shaved - all for a great cause, To benefit the We Act Club's donations to the WaterStep organization. Students could pay $1 for a ballot to vote to "Save It or Shave It". True to form, none of us were SAVED!

The collage also shows us after our beards, moustaches, and locks were shorn away! (Walter Denham hadn't shaved his moustache in more than 30 years!) But special kudos to Harrison Aberle and Declan Keegan for going "the Full Monty" on their noggins, and the MVV Award (Most Valiant Victim) has to go to Sarah Linkous, who had her Rapunzel-like tresses replaced by a Miley Cyrus 'do!

The kids loved this assembly, and it serves to underscore the camaraderie between our student body and adults at St. Francis. Thanks are in order to parent Pam Jones, who volunteered to come out to school as our resident "barber," and teacher Shelly Jones for heading up the We Act Club and spearheading these philanthropic high jinks. Next year, we'll probably be diving into a frozen river!

Congrats to Will "Michael Phelps" Cole!

SFS 6th grader Will Cole competed in the Kentucky State Swimming meet last week and placed third overall in the 12 and under boys age group (out of more than 100 competing statewide!). And even more impressive, the medley relay team he is on set a new staterecord, breaking the old one by three seconds! (One of the previous record-holding teams included future Louisville Olympian Clark Burckle!) This state record time places them in 7th place overall in medley relays throughout the entire United States! Who knew Wyverns were so good in the water?!

Staffing Update from Alexandra & Reed
Every spring brings the yearly cycle of reluctantly saying goodbye to a few of our teachers and welcoming some new faces to the St. Francis family. We have already begun the process of bringing candidates onto the campus for interviews and recently told the students who is not returning for next year. Whether relocating to be nearer family, taking on a wonderful new opportunity, or just simply retiring, we say, "Best of Luck!" (not goodbye!) to:

* Kelly Bailey, who is moving back home to Colorado to be nearer her family (and the Broncos!)
* Carol Clark, who is retiring from a career for the second time (but still plans on leading our 6th grade Pine Mountain trip and subbing for us)
* Youssef Dardar, who has accepted a position teaching both Arabic and French at the International High School in New Orleans
* Abbey Flynn, who will be stepping out of her full-time LA/SS position to work part-time next year due to her impending motherhood, and
* Neisja Yenawine, who is off to an "artistic" retirement!

We will deeply miss all of these talented individuals who have given so much to the St. Francis Community! In Mr. Dardar's case, his new position starts after Spring Break, and we are fortunate that St. Francis alum (G '05, '09) and Enrichment Director Lizzy Denny is perfectly qualified to step in for him! (A separate email announcing this change was sent out earlier today.) We know you will join us in wishing them well and later this year we'll announce our "new faces!"

Shakespeare anyone?
The St. Francis Drama Project proudly presents Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors.

"I to the world am like a drop of water
That i
n the ocean seeks another drop."  - Antipholus

Shakespeare's preposterous farce, the rollicking, high-speed Comedy of Errors, with its twsets of identical twins, each twin named the same as his brother, poignantly underscores our deep longing to find our true identity - a real partner to help define ourselves and share life's journeys.

The National Youth Arts Award-winning St. Francis Drama Project proudly presents this early comedy of Shakespeare at the Goshen Campus tonight, March 25th and 26th at 6:30, and March 23rd at 2:00 p.m.

A cast of 26 talented students play the long-separated sets of twins and servants, the parents,a duke, and a host of merchants and townspeople in the bustling port of Ephesus. There is a cosmopolitan array of ethnicity in the production's attire - Italian, Russian, Greek, Chinese, and many others mingling in commerce -  and in reverse of Shakespeare's time, there are several girls playing men.

Shakespeare pulls out all the stops: delightful couplets, foibled characters, mistaken identities, slapstick combat, chase scenes, and of course, a wonderful closing reunion. Dromio, staring at his mirror image for the first time, finally concludes the day's raucous events:

"We came into the world like brother and brother,
And now let's go hand in hand, not one before the other."

As you know, we opted to not have our children do the traditional door-to-door selling of products this year in lieu of simply asking each FAMILY to pay $50 in support of the PA. Therefore, if you have multiple children it is not $50/ child, just $50 for the entire family. I bet you spent more than that on wrapping paper and chocolates in the past!

If you are writing a check, please note in the Memo line that it is for Goshen PA dues and your child's name. If you believe you have already paid but it is not reflected in our records, please contact the PA Treasurers Tim and Melissa Patrick.

**Box Tops Reminder!**

Don't forget to check your household products for the pink label - Box Tops for Education. Each Box Top is worth $.10 which goes directly to the Parent Association end of year gift to the school. If you shop at Meijer's, please note the following:
