It's been a wacky but fun week on the Goshen Campus!
First we experienced typical Louisville March weather of mid-70s temperatures and sunshine on Tuesday, with the kids excited to get outside in short sleeves and shorts, followed Wednesday by an immediate drop to 40 degrees, snow showers, and back to winter!

On Tuesday, we were treated to a visit by an adorable baby goat, courtesy of Garden Coordinator Christine Brinkman! Plenty of "ahhhhhhs" were heard as kids "ponied" up to see and pet our new friend. And on Wednesday, we had another of our famous "Buddy Days," which this time featured the whole student body dancing with their buddies in the Main Amp to the Sugar Hill Gang (sadly, I remember when they were new!) and One Direction! This was to celebrate our winter of creative physical education one last time as we hopefully move outdoors on a more regula r basis! All of these activities are typically reflective of the joy in our mission that is visible here every day.

On a more serious note, as I came into the Middle School Amp for our Wednesday morning meeting, my first thought was, "What is this mess on the floor?" It turned out the "mess" was giant garbage bags of used shoes collected so diligently by our 6th grade class for their service-learning project! As you probably know by now (and hopefully some clutter is gone from your closets), they have been collecting used shoes to benefit Water Step, an organization that helps provide clean drinking water to communities around the world that are in dire need. I stopped by Ms. Jones' classroom that morning, and what is so rewarding is seeing the kids so energized about what they are doing. When they got up to speak about their project, there were no "cue cards." They could speak off-the-cuff about why they had chosen this group to help and cited statistics about the predicament of lack of access to clean water.

This is why we take service learning so seriously. It is the attitude it instills more than any particular collection or dollar amount we might raise.

Stay tuned for the "grand finale" in next week's newsletter. The "Save it or Shave it" assembly is this Friday (too late for "press time") and several of us are nervously awaiting our fates of whether we're going to lose our newly grown beards, moustaches (think Walter Denham!) and goatees - or in Ms. Linkous' case, all her hair! All for a good cause and all in a wacky St. Francis/March week of joy and service to others! Enjoy the many great pictures above and below!

P.S. - You can use this link to purchase tickets to our St. Francis Drama Project production of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors opening next Friday, March 21!
You may want to get on those fast, as we often sell out in advance. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for you participation in the Wyvern Ski Club!
from Stephen McCrocklin

This turned out to be a bigger success than I had expected for a first year!
We had 27 students enrolled. I appreciate the support from all of the adults who took time out of their Friday afternoons and evenings to chaperone and support the club.
I was very impressed with the students who joined and the level of maturity each showed while participating with this off-campus activity.

Beyond the individual improvement I saw in many skiers, everybody seemed to have to a lot of fun! Unlimitedly, that is what it was all about. Thanks again for your participation!

Shakespeare anyone?
Mark your calendars as the St. Francis Drama Project proudly presents Shakespeare's TheComedy of Errors.

"I to the world am like a drop of water
That i
n the ocean seeks another drop."  - Antipholus

Shakespeare's preposterous farce, the rollicking, high-speed Comedy of Errors, with its twsets of identical twins, each twin named the same as his brother, poignantly underscores our deep longing to find our true identity - a real partner to help define ourselves and share life's journeys.

The National Youth Arts Award-winning St. Francis Drama Project proudly presents this early comedy of Shakespeare at the Goshen Campus March 21st, 25th, and 26th at 6:30, and March 23rd at 2:00 p.m.

A cast of 26 talented students play the long-separated sets of twins and servants, the parents,a duke, and a host of merchants and townspeople in the bustling port of Ephesus. There is a cosmopolitan array of ethnicity in the production's attire - Italian, Russian, Greek, Chinese, and many others mingling in commerce -  and in reverse of Shakespeare's time, there are several girls playing men.

Shakespeare pulls out all the stops: delightful couplets, foibled characters, mistaken identities, slapstick combat, chase scenes, and of course, a wonderful closing reunion. Dromio, staring at his mirror image for the first time, finally concludes the day's raucous events:

"We came into the world like brother and brother,
And now let's go hand in hand, not one before the other."

Supporting Lines for The Comedy of Errors actors
This year in the program of the spring show The Comedy of Errors, we are going to add an extra touch, one that both gives some extra praise to those who have worked so hard and lets us raise funds for the drama projects here at Goshen.
You can send your child, grandchild, friend, student, teacher, or fellow cast member a note of encouragement in the program by submitting a "Supporting Line".
The line should be no more than 70 characters and will cost $20.

7th Grade Book Sale!
from Michael S. Mahoney  and Kelly Bailey 7th grade Advisors

On Tuesday, March 18, the 7th grade will be holding a book sale to raise money for its service project: feeding the homeless on Saturday, March 22. Funds from the book sale will be used to purchase food that the 7th graders will then cook at
St. Francis in the Fields Church before serving the homeless at Old Male High School in downtown Louisville. The class is working with an organization called Loaves & Fishes.
A WIDE RANGE OF BOOKS will be available for purchase for only $1 or $2 each. The books, primarily for young readers in grades PK-6, were kindly donated by the 7th grade parents.
Look for the book sale outside of the main office beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. Books will be available for purchase after dismissal next Friday, as well. Bring some cash, snag some great books, and help the 7th grade feed the homeless of Louisville.

As you know, we opted to not have our children do the traditional door-to-door selling of products this year in lieu of simply asking each FAMILY to pay $50 in support of the PA. Therefore, if you have multiple children it is not $50/ child, just $50 for the entire family. I bet you spent more than that on wrapping paper and chocolates in the past!

If you have not already done so, you can contribute by bringing your payment to the school office or you can follow this link.

If you are writing a check, please note in the Memo line that it is for Goshen PA dues and your child's name. If you believe you have already paid but it is not reflected in our records, please contact the PA Treasurers
Tim and Melissa Patrick.
