Happy (post) Halloween! I hope the weather didn't ruin your little imps' plans, but no matter the case, we still had fun here with the annual Lower School Halloween Parade on Wednesday, the Middle School kids dressing up on Thursday, and the usual Halloween parties! And thanks, as always, to all the hard-working adults who provided goodies for us as room parents (and the fabulous teacher appreciation luncheon provided by the 6th Grade this week too!). We all look forward to a restoration of "sugar balance" next week!
Some weeks are dominated by athletic tournaments, or Grandparents Day, or even progress reports, but this is "Play Week!" 25 of our Middle School kids have been working hard since the year began to bring Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Harvey, to life on our stage. This touching and slyly funny comedy (made most famous in the movie version starring Jimmy Stewart) centers around Elwood P. Dowd, and his best friend, an imaginary six-foot-white-tall rabbit named Harvey. Elwood's visions ultimately lead him and family to a sanitarium and mayhem ensues from there!
This is a very dialogue-heavy show that our Middle School actors and crew have taken head on. I would recommend it for students in grades 4 and up, and hope you get an opportunity to make it out to share in the hijinks. Harvey will be performed Friday, November 1st, 5th, and 7th at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on the 3rd at 2:00. Tickets will be available at the door at $8.00 for adults, and $5.00 for students. And please note that we are promoting the Tuesday performance as "Student Night." St Francis students will be admitted 2 for 1 if they bring a canned good to benefit the 6th grade food collection project, "We Scare Hunger".
We hope to see you there (bring a friend out to experience our Drama Project for the first time) and be sure and rub Harvey's foot out front for good luck - you can't miss him!
Feel free to email me with any comments, questions or suggestions.

We hope to see many of you there!

Please come and join us at our Downtown Open House on Wednesday, November 13th, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.
There will be a panel comprised of current students and parents to introduce you to the High School, explain why they chose St. Francis School, and to answer any questions you many have.
After the panel, we will be conducting tours so that you may see the facilities, visit classrooms, and meet our teachers and coaches. We hope to see you there!

A reminder to all SFS families to help the 6th grade "scare hunger" in our community by bringing in canned foods, cereal, peanut butter, tuna, etc. to support Dare to Care. The last day to bring in items is Nov. 6th. You might even ask friends and relatives for a couple of items from their pantries when you are out trick-or-treating or at Halloween parties. Click here for a flyer with Dare to Care's top 10 most needed items, too.

Congratulation to SFS Goshen Graduate, Lila Asher, for inclusion in the November issue of Louisville Magazine as a "Super Kid!"
We're certainly not surprised as we all knew Lila was a "super kid" during her years here. This figure-skating scholar, who recently scored a perfect 36 on the ACT, also made us proud with this quote in the magazine: "I really want to go into environmental science and conservation...My grade school, St. Francis Goshen, is surrounded by acres and acres. They focused a lot on being sustainable, and I think it just stuck with me."
We know Lila will continue to make us proud!

Wyvern Ski & Snowboarding Club for 6th, 7th & 8th graders!!!
Alum and current parent Stephen McCrocklin is organizing our Wyvern Ski & Snowboarding Club!
For only $160 you get four ski/boarding lift tickets for Fridays, plus lessons and equipment! (If you have equipment subtract $40!) Departure for the four trips will be immediately after school on preplanned Fridays in January/February, weather permitting. I will need some transportation and chaperoning help from parents of participating students. I have a van so I can take 4 additional students with me. After we know how many students will be participating, we can sort out additional logistics in a meeting in November. Further, you are welcome to upgrade and purchase any of the ski passes listed in the below/attached brochure. If you want to participate in the ski club, just be sure your passes are valid on Fridays.
Anyone is welcome to purchase ski passes at the discounted Wyvern Ski & Snowboard Club rate!
