I just wanted to take a minute to thank all the parents who have come out for our first two Parent Coffees this year. We had a good showing for our JK/K Coffee, and then a packed house for Grades 1-4 last week! These morning events allow us to share some "big picture" information about particular grade levels and school culture, and, more importantly, allow you to ask whatever is on your mind, whether you are a veteran SFS parent or brand new. Questions and topics bounce all over the educational and parenting spectrum and all are welcome. Our last Parent Coffee is coming up on Tuesday, September 10th after morning carpool for all Middle School parents in Grades 5-8.
Likewise, our two Parent Nights are on the horizon, too. These evening programs are geared more towards our wonderful teachers who will discuss their curriculum, goals, and routines, and also take your questions. Lower School Parent Night is next Thursday, September 12th from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and Middle School Parent Night is the following Tuesday, September 17th at the same time (we will also discuss our outdoor education trips for Grades 6 and 8 to Pine Mountain and Big South Fork, respectively, that evening!)
As you can see from the picture below, "The new lunch tables are here! The new lunch tables are here!" (as Steve Martin might have said). Why the fuss? We've been looking forward to these new lunch tables since the start of school for a number of reasons. The seats are built into them and therefore every table holds eight seats. This allows for more uniformity in seating and less "social" overcrowding. And even better, they fold up and roll away in a jiffy, which makes Jim DeNicola and his crew happy - and the students, too, as there are NO MORE CHAIRS TO STACK! While this part of their daily clean-up routine has been removed, they will continue to clean the tables, learning responsibility and the "joy" of tidying up after oneself. If you've never volunteered to help out in the lunchroom, now might be the time to start!
PS - We're also looking for volunteers to help Andrew Frechette out in the library and to chaperone Middle School Dances at other LISC Schools starting in October. Please contact Olivia Sleadd or Denise Ragland if you'd like to help out!
"Teagan Morrison, Emma King, and Lily Johnson show off our new lunch tables!"
Feel free to email me with any comments, questions or suggestions.

LET'S DO THIS!!!
We have officially kicked off our 5-Week Annual Fund Drive. Last year we finished with 98% parent participation and I know we can reach the 100% mark this year! You should have received a pledge envelope in your child's backpack last week. Please get those back to the office as soon as possible! If you did not receive one, we have extras at the front desk. THANK YOU in advance for your support and generosity!

SFS Spirit Night and Parent Night News!
|
We wanted to let you know about a change and exciting addition to our calendar for September to give you plenty of advance notice! First, we saw an opportunity to create an All-Campus event this fall with the Downtown Campus having its annual Fall Sports Picnic on Thursday, September 19th on the Goshen Campus. We were able to rearrange our Middle School sports schedule to add both soccer and field hockey games that afternoon so we can have a joint "Spirit Night"/"Fall Sports Picnic" this year! All of our fall field sports teams will be in competition here at the Goshen Campus beginning at 4:30 with Middle School field hockey and soccer games, and ending with varsity soccer and field hockey games. Spirited play, food from the grill, Wyvern wear, and plenty of red and blue will be on display! We hope you and your kids can join us for this celebration of athletics and school spirit on Thursday, September 19th, so mark your calendars now and we'll see you then! And as a result, the Middle School Parent Night originally scheduled on the same evening has been moved back two nights earlier to Tuesday, September 17th at 6:30 p.m.! Please make a note and remember, all dates and games are on the official school calendar.

We are excited to announce that children's author Tyler Whiteside will be coming to speak to our 3rd through 5th grade students on September 11th. He will be at Barnes and Noble in the Summit that evening and the next, September 12th, at 6:30 p.m. to sign books, as well. We would love to have a large representation of our students at the signing, so please go ahead and mark it on your calendars. If you would like to pre-order an autographed book, please use this form. Thanks!

Whether you're dropping off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon, there are a few ways that you can help keep the carpool line running smoothly:
-Please stay in the car and allow the faculty/staff to help your child(ren) out of the car -Once you're in the "circle" in front of the school, please pull up as far as you can so that the cars behind you can also pull forward -Whenever possible, please have your child sit on the passenger side of the vehicle so that he/she can exit safely by the curb -Please have your student(s) ready to hop out of the car with backpacks zipped and coats on -In the case that traffic backs up onto Highway 42, please pull into the drive and start a second lane of traffic. These lanes should once again merge as you get closer to the front entrance of school.
Our primary goal is always to make sure that all students get in and out of vehicles as safely as possible. We appreciate your following these guidelines and helping the carpool process run effectively. Thank you.
