August 24: Southern Plains TTAP Safety Awards
Applications now available! 

To assist tribes in promoting safety, the Southern Plains Tribal Technical Assistance Program (SPTTAP) Center's Tribal Safety Circuit Rider Program created the annual Southern Plains TTAP Safety Awards.

This year, seven categories of safety awards will be awarded, including three new areas of achievement. Each award will recognize outstanding safety efforts conducted in 2016 by an individual or group making an impact in transportation, transit, law enforcement or child passenger safety. Highlighted in orange are the new additional safety award categories.

Southern Plains TTAP Safety Awards Categories: 
  1. Tribal Child Passenger Safety Technician of the Year
  2. Tribal Child Passenger Safety Instructor of the Year
  3. Tribal Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
  4. BIA Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
  5. Local Law Enforcement Officer of the Year
  6. Safety Champion of the Year
  7. Safety Champions of the Year (Group award) 
  8. Infrastructure Project of the Year (Group award) 
  9. Transit Program of the Year (Group award) 
  10. Transit Driver of the Year

Drunk driving is a deadly epidemic that takes the lives of more than 10,000 people each year, on average. Remember to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.

Don't forget the Tribal Transportation Program Funding         proposals are due September 16!

A Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF) Notice of FundingOpportunity (NOFO) was published in the Federal Register on July 18,2016.  Federally recognized tribes may apply for this grant until September 16, 2016.  For additional application information please visit the TTP Safety Fund website at

Note that the eligibility list for the TTP Safety Fund has changed under the FAST Act. Projects that are eligible for the TTP Safety Fund are now limited to safety plans, crash data improvement, road safety audits, and other activities, primarily infrastructure improvements, as listed in 23 U.S.C. 148(a)
