Safety Funding Awards Announced

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx announced this week that 35 tribes will receive more than $8 million for 54 projects from the Tribal Transportation Program Safety Fund (TTPSF).

In the Southern Plains TTAP service area, the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma were awarded for road safety improvements and quality of life improvements on their reserve and the neighboring City of Pawnee.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will publish notice of availability for the next round of TTP Safety funding in the next two months.
Nominees Needed for National Transportation Committee
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) seeks nominations of individuals representing tribal governments to serve on the Tribal Transportation Self Governance Program (TTSGP) Negotiated Rulemaking Committee.

Nominees must be elected officials of tribal governments or tribal employees designated with authority to act on behalf of elected officials in regards to transportation. The committee will negotiate and develop regulations for the FHWA to follow in carrying out the American government's unique government-to-government relationship with Native Nations through the TTSGP.

Nominations must be postmarked, received electronically or faxed by June 9 to be considered.

UPCOMING TRAINING:
TTIP Template Training: May 11

Please note the new date for the FHWA TTIP Template Training: May 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Central Time.

FHWA is pleased to announce a training opportunity for Tribes that currently have FHWA Program Agreements. In the Southern Plains TTAP service area, this includes the Cherokee Nation, the Chickasaw Nation, the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, the Osage Nation, the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo of Texas.

The webinar will introduce the new Tribal Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP) Template Tool. This tool will help Tribes with the development of the Tribal TIP and is aimed at transportation staff or any individuals that prepare Tribal TIPs.

Prior to the webinar, it is recommend that interested individuals visit the FHWA TTP Planning page and download a copy of the FHWA TTIP Template and accompanying TIP Template User Guide to become familiar with the materials.

FUNDING:
SHRP2 Implementation Assistance Program (IAP)
DUE: April 29

Native Nations have until April 29 to submit proposals for funding under the SHRP2 Implementation Assistance Program (IAP). Proposals considered for financial and technical assistance include reliability data and analysis tools, railroad mitigation strategies, pavement delimitation and other select areas. Section 5311 Grant Applications
DUE May 1

SPTTAP wishes good luck to all Tribal Transit Providers who have applied for Section 5311 grants this year by the April 1 initial letter of interest deadline.

May 1 is the deadline to submit your complete application for this Oklahoma funding opportunity, including the published legal notices regarding public engagement and a notice to accept bids from disadvantaged businesses. By June 1, ODOT Project Managers will schedule meetings with applicants to finalize their applications.

BIA Indian Highway Safety Program
DUE May 2

Need funding for traffic safety campaigns or to conduct additional sobriety check points? The BIA Indian Highway Safety Program seeks to fund tribal law enforcement for over-time, full-time and impaired driving adjudication court.



Tribal Transit Program (TTP) Funding Available
DUE May 13

Native Nations who are recipients of the Tribal Transit Program (TTP) have until May 13 to submit proposals to plan, invest in, or obtain some operating spport for tribal transit programs. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) expects to make 80 awards through this program, distributing a total of $5 million in support of tribal transit. 

Eligible proposals will propose capital projects, plans to acquire public transportation services including entering into service agreements with private providers, operating equipment and new transit facilities, planning, and administrative expenses for public transit projects that meet the growing needs of rural tribal communities. More


Funding to Upgrade Your Nation's Transit Vehicles
DUE: May 13

Native Nations who receive Federal Transit Admininstration (FTA) funding have until May 13 to submit a proposal for funding through the Low or No Emission Program created to support the transition to transit vehicles that are better for the environment. More

Funding to Repair and Enhance Transit Systems
DUE: May 13

Native Nations funded under the Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Urbanized Area Formula program have until May 13 to apply for Bus Program funding to improve the maintenance and upkeep of their fleet. Proposals for repair, maintenance, safety enhancements and projects to implement technology to connect bus systems to other networks are welcome. More

Funding for Transportation to Wellness
DUE: May 31

Native Nations who lead transportation, healthcare and human service stakeholders in their community have until May 31 to apply for funding through the Innovative Coordinated Access and Mobility Grants Program. This Federal Transit Authority (FTA) program seeks to support the testing of innovative transportation methods to connect more people to healthcare and wellness. Successful proposals will offer to test transportation methods that other communities could implement or replicate as well. More
