Erosion Control training offers hands-on activities
for participants

An Erosion Control class (Tribal RoadStar Program - Course 10) class was held for 35 tribal, county, and municipal workers at the Center for Local Government Technology in Stillwater, OK on Wednesday, October 7. The course, a cooperative effort of the Southern Plains TTAP and Oklahoma LTAP, was instructed by Jason R. Vogel, Ph.D., P.E, Associate Professor & Stormwater Specialist, Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, Oklahoma State University. Vogel gave an overview of the principles of erosion and sediment control, along with a discussion on low impact development. He also shared many erosion control examples and a recent video of a construction project captured by a drone at the City of Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Vendors from Triangle Silt Dike and American Excelsior were also on hand to discuss the specific properties of their products and let class participants work with their erosion control materials.

"This was a good opportunity for me to get a roads perspective of tribal transportation," said Denise Smith, Citizen Potawatomi Nation Transit Director. "I learned a lot!"

Denise is working on her Tribal RoadStar certification from Southern Plains TTAP, so she can have a better understanding of the many aspects of tribal transportation.

The next Tribal RoadStar class will be held on October 20 in Stillwater, when leadership expert
Rhett Laubach shares an engaging and interactive presentation on handling difficult conversations.
