Disaster Response Course/Road Safety +/Excavation Safety

Coming to El Reno, Okmulgee, and Mayetta, KS

August 4-6

Disaster Response Course - Each year in the United States transportation agencies are pressed into service to assist their communities in the event of natural or man-made disasters. Disasters can be as varied as the World Trade Center, Hurricane Sandy, tornadoes, explosions, fires and flooding. The Disaster Response Training Program is for Disaster Site Workers who provide skilled support services, (e.g. utility, demolition, debris removal, or heavy equipment opeartion). The program will make management and labor aware that pre-incident training is essential for ensuring disaster and worker safety and health when responding to natural and man-made disasters. Specifically,, it is recognized that all workers at disaster sites need to be aware of the differences between disaster sites and regular construction or demolition worksites. Road Safety Plus - This 2-hour course will provide instruction in roadway construction safety. The class informs supervisors of the need to keep workers focused on safety. Topics include why staying alert is important, how to prevent distractions, what happens if workers become distracted, and encouraging constant safety for workers and motorists.
The class in Mayetta will feature Excavation Safety in its Part 2 session. Trenching and excavation work presents serious hazards to all workers involved. Unfortunately, trench collapses (cave-ins) cause dozens of fatalities and hundreds of injuries each year. The objective of the course is to provide guidelines for establishing OSHA-approved protective systems for a variety of common trenching/excavating projects (pipe installation, ditching, etc.)
