A Tribal RoadStar Class

Dr. Heather Yates, Instructor

Despite perceptions, the field of construction isn't all about heavy, hands-on labor, nor is it strictly a man's world as more and more women enter the field. Construction Managers oversee building projects through the planning, development, construction and completion phases.
The Construction Management and Cost Estimating Course on May 5-6 in Stillwater, will offer guidance on overall construction management, quantity take off, cost estimates, historical data, materials/labor, and more. The 2-day overview will conclude with a practical application exercise in a case study. Instructor is Heather Yates, Ed. D, Associate Professor, Construction Management Technology, Oklahoma State University.

Coalitions Conquer Crime: Preventative Strategies that Work in Native American Communities:
May 8 in Stillwater, OK
Coalition groups play an important role in uniting a community or tribe. Understand the structure of developing the coalition group and how to create a coalition that fits the needs and issues of your tribal community.
A priority of the "Coalition Group" is to develop a mission that will tackle issues that are specific to a tribal community. With this united neighborhood force in place, your tribal communities can survive and thrive.
In this workshop you will learn how to build a coalition in your tribal communities and how to implement an action plan. The topics that will be discussed are: substance abuse, impaired driving, suicide and bullying. You will learn how the Ponca Tribe Tradition Not Addiction Foundation created and implemented intervention and prevention tactics in their tribal community! Numbers talk! Since the establishment of their coalition, the Ponca Tribe's "Tradition Not Addiction" has reported an 80% decrease in their crime rate in the White Eagle community in Ponca City, OK. If you're a stakeholder in your community and want to develop an action plan, come and take notes!
