Tabatha Harris, Tribal Safety Circuit Rider, SP TTAP
Tabatha Harris joins SPTTAP staff

Tabatha Harris was named Southern Plains TTAP's new Tribal Safety Circuit Rider on December 1, 2014. Tabatha will assist tribes in SPTTAP's service area with safety planning and other safety-related activities.

"I am very excited for my new challenge as the Tribal Safety Circuit Rider. I have a passion of working with Native people and believe it's a way for me to give back."

Tabatha hopes to encourage a better partnership with the state agencies and programs, and let them know that Indian country shares the same concern for safety.

Tribal Safety Champions Workshop presentations posted

The Tribal Safety Champions Workshop, sponsored by SPTTAP and Southern Plains Transportation Center, saw over 120 participants in attendance to experience a wide variety of safety presentations and training in the 2-day workshop held Dec. 2-3 in Norman, OK.

Motorcycle safety, Engineering Safety Countermeasures, Funded Tribal Safety Projects, Safety Planning, E911, Injury Prevention Programs, Transit Safety, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Impaired Driving, and Occupant Protection were just some of the topics covered at the event.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Edmond Police Department displayed their motorcycles and educational programs outdoors. Also, the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office showcased their ENDUI vans, as part of a new statewide impaired driving prevention initiative. The new vehicles will allow troopers to do on-the-spot blood alcohol testing (BAT), which will help speed up the assessment process during enforcement events wherever they are needed across the state, officials said.

Some presentations from the Tribal Safety Champions Workshop have been posted on the Southern Plains TTAP website. Keep watching for more presentations to be posted in January!!
