ODOT asking public for transportation project suggestions

What road projects do you want to see in the next four years? The Oklahoma Department of Transportation wants to hear from you. ODOT is seeking public comment on the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for federal fiscal years 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. 

The STIP is a planning document detailing a list of regionally significant construction projects anticipated for the next four federal fiscal years. The document includes not only ODOT projects but also those of the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments, Indian Nations Council of Governments, Lawton Metropolitan Planning Organization, Frontier Metropolitan Planning Organization, various tribal governments and other transportation-related groups such as the Oklahoma Transit Association.         
Examples of projects on the list include resurfacing parts of I-40 in Beckham County, bridge upgrades on portions of SH-11 in Grant County and reconstruction work on US-75 in Okmulgee County. A full list of projects is available online by selecting the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program listed under Transportation Programs at www.okladot.state.ok.us. The plan can also be viewed in person at the following locations:

Comments will be taken until Nov. 30. Substantive comments will be addressed and will be incorporated into the final document that will be forwarded in December to the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit Administration for approval.

ENDUI Oklahoma kicks off at State Capitol

Gov. Mary Fallin announced the new statewide impaired driving campaign on Thursday, November 13, 2014.  This campaign focuses on ending impaired driving in Oklahoma.  The announcement took place in the Blue Room on the second floor of the Oklahoma State Capitol, located at 2300 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73105. 

 

Other speakers included: Col. Rick Adams, Chief of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol; Terri White, Commissioner of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services; and Garry Thomas, Director of the Highway Safety Office.

 

The new campaign, ENDUI Oklahoma, focuses on ending impaired driving in Oklahoma.  It emphasizes personal responsibility, as well as taking action when someone else is making poor decisions.

Transportation in Tribal Lands in TR News

TR News for September 2014 highlights Transportation in Tribal Lands, and includes several articles relating to tribal transit. 

The TR News is TRB's bimonthly magazine featuring timely articles on innovative and state-of-the-art research and practice in all modes of transportation. It also includes brief news items of interest to the transportation community, research pays off articles profiles of transportation professionals, workshop and conference announcements, new book notices, and news of TRB activities. Submissions of manuscripts for possible publication are accepted at any time.

Initiatives promoting employment transportation

FTA posted a Notice of Funding Availability for the  Innovative Public Transportation Workforce Development Program (Ladders of Opportunity). Proposals are due on December 23rd for initiatives promoting employment transportation.
