Save TIME, MONEY, and FUEL with Intelligent Compaction!

EDC Exchange ~ April 3, 2014
Intelligent Compaction
in Stillwater, OK

Join us at noon on April 3, 2014, for a discussion with experts on
Intelligent Compaction. This Every Day Counts webinar and exchange will be held at the Center for Local Government Technology in Stillwater, OK, from noon until 3:00 pm.

Lunch will be served! Please register to reserve your spot!

Pavement is typically designed to bear traffic demands for at least 20 years with regularly scheduled maintenance. When pavement begins to crack and crumble prematurely, one of the potential causes could be that the pavement and base layer were not compacted properly, or there is not a uniform thickness.

Intelligent compaction (IC) rollers greatly improve the quality, uniformity and long-lasting performance of pavements today. Using vibration and a system to collect, process, and analyze the measurements in real time, IC rollers are able to compact greater amounts of pavement with fewer passes than the traditional static rollers sometimes in a much shorter time. IC efficiencies produce time, cost and fuel savings. With more efficient paving processes, production can increase and State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) can construct greater amounts of roadway daily.

Mr. Tom Goldstein, FHWA Oklahoma Division Team Leader, will facilitate a discussion with the local group and will also present funding options for implementation of innovation and technologies that include Intelligent Compaction.

An Oklahoma perspective on the technology will also be given by Waseem Fazal, FHWA, and Larry Patrick, Oklahoma Asphalt Pavement Association.

$600 Million for Sixth Round of TIGER Funding
The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or

TIGER Discretionary Grant program, provides a unique opportunity for the DOT to invest in road, rail, transit and port projects that promise to achieve critical national objectives. Since 2009, Congress has dedicated more than $4.1 billion for six rounds to fund projects that have a significant impact on the Nation, a region or a metropolitan area.

The TIGER program enables DOT to examine a broad array of projects on their merits, to help ensure that taxpayers are getting the highest value for every dollar invested.  In each round of TIGER, DOT receives many applications to build and repair critical pieces of our passenger and freight transportation networks. Applicants must detail the benefits their project would deliver for five long-term outcomes: safety, economic competitiveness, state of good repair, quality of life and environmental sustainability.

Please see the Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) http://www.dot.gov/tiger/nofa.

More information about the TIGER program can be found at www.dot.gov/tiger.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to look through Frequently Asked Questions, webinars and other guidance on the TIGER web page. Applications are due April 28th!
