Defensive Driving Classes

On Thursday 19, the Southern Plains TTAP held a Defensive Driving Course for 20 tribal members at the Native American Church (NAC) Building in Concho, Oklahoma. Two other DDC classes are scheduled in Concho, one on January 23 and another on February 25. On February 18, a class is set for the Clinton Tribal Community Center.  PHOTOS from the class

The National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course strives to ensure that people get what they need to drive defensively--knowledge, skills and perspective that will help them continue to prevent injuries and save lives. This 6-hour course helps develop accident avoidance behavior and safe driving practices, which can significantly reduce the number of collisions and citations your drivers might experience.

Course Goals:

  • Acquire the skills and knowledge you need to be a defensive driver.
  • Recognize that defensive driving is a matter of personal choice.
  • Recognize common hazards in the driving environment and react to prevent collisions.
  • Describe the dangers of impaired driving.
  • Avoid the six most common driving errors.
Other DDC classes scheduled:

January 27 - Muscogee (Creek) Nation in Okmulgee, OK

February 8 - The Chickasaw Nation in Ada, OK

February 21 - Choctaw Nation in Hugo, OK

Design-Build: EDC's January Innovation

Every Day Counts
The January innovation of the month is design-build contracting, a project delivery method in which the design and construction phases of a project are combined into one contract that's usually awarded on a low-bid or best-value basis.

Typically, highway agencies choose the design-build approach to accelerate the completion of a project. It can save significant time over the more traditional design-bid-build approach in which the design and construction phases occur sequentially.
