Road Safety Audit held in Pawnee, OK

On Thursday and Friday, December 5 and 6, the Southern Plains TTAP and the Pawnee Nation coordinated a Road Safety Audit (RSA) Training and Field Visit in Pawnee, OK as a first step in their Tribal Transportation Safety Plan project. Engineers, Elissa Goughnour and Daniel Nabors, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc., led the activities.

The use of RSAs continues to grow and their success has led to the FHWA adopting the process as one of its nine "proven safety countermeasures."

RSAs
  • Will help save lives and reduce injuries.
  • Examine conditions in detail that may pose safety hazards to all road users by pulling together a multidisciplinary team with various backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Consider safety from a human factors point of view as well as an engineering perspective.
  • Do not require a large investment of time or money.
