Geospatial Data Collaboration in practice
WEBINAR - FREE REGISTRATION

NHI
Geospatial Data Collaboration (GDC) encourages transportation agencies to use geospatial tools, like geographic information systems (GIS), to share data, increase collaboration, and improve the quality and speed of transportation decision-making. GDC is one element of FHWA's Every Day Counts (EDC) initiative, which is aimed at producing innovations, resources, and partnerships to shorten project delivery, enhance safety, and protect the environment. EDC and GDC also leverage other ongoing FHWA efforts such as Planning and Environment Linkages (PEL) and Eco-Logical. Taken together, all of these efforts are helping transportation stakeholders work together and with others to result in smarter, faster decision-making and better transportation projects.

GDC focuses on the how transportation agencies are pulling transportation-related datasets together and using them in GIS-based screening tools to help them make decisions efficiently. GDC is also focused on how transportation agencies and their partners working with each other to make these data libraries and screening tools happen.
Walkability means healthy and sustainable communities

Walkability offers surprising benefits to our health, the environment, our finances, and our communities.

Health: The average resident of a walkable neighborhood weighs 6-10 pounds less than someone who lives in a sprawling neighborhood.
Cities with good public transit and access to amenities promote happiness.

Environment: 82% of CO2 emissions are from burning fossil fuels.3 Your feet are zero-pollution transportation machines.

Finances: Cars are the second largest household expense in the U.S.4 One point of Walk Score is worth up to $3,000 of value for your property.

Communities: Studies show that for every 10 minutes a person spends in a daily car commute, time spent in community activities falls by 10%.

Walk Score helps you find a walkable place to live. Walk Score is a number between 0 and 100 that measures the walkability of any address. Learn about Transit Score and Bike Score.
