Developing Tribal Transportation Safety Plans

Webinar Announcement

August 29, 2013 at 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm CST

Instructor:  Adam Larsen, FHWA

Webinar Description:

Tribal Transportation Safety Plans are a critical first step for developing a strategic approach to transportation safety risks. This training will be an overview of a recommended process for developing TTSP.

MAP-21 sets aside 2% of the Tribal Transportation Program (TTP) as TTP Safety Funds (TTPSF) to be made available to tribes on a competitive basis.  The funds will be distributed to tribes to develop strategic plans and implement multi-disciplinary strategies that are most likely to reduce the number of fatal and serious injury crashes that are occurring in Indian Country.   The top priority during the first cycle of funding will be funding the development of Tribal Transportation Safety Plans. The training will also cover key elements for Tribes to consider when applying for TTPSF dollars to develop a Tribal Transportation Safety Plan.

A Tribal Transportation Safety Plan:

  • is a living document
  • is data driven
  • identifies transportation safety issues
  • prioritizes strategies to address the top issues
  • is coordinated with the State Strategic Highway Safety Plan and any local government safety plans
  • and, promotes a comprehensive, strategic approach to addressing safety needs with input from a variety of stakeholders

Registration for this event is required.  This webinar is limited to 99 connections.

Locally Administered Federal-Aid Projects: What's in it for you?
September 24, 1:00 pm Central Time in Stillwater, OK

As a key transportation stakeholder in the State of Oklahoma, the Federal Highway Administration's Oklahoma Division (FHWA) invites you to attend the "Locally Administered Federal-Aid Projects" Every Day Counts (EDC) Exchange. The Exchange takes place on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:30 pm Central Standard Time via a live nationwide interactive video conference at the Center for Local Government Technology in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

The second round of EDC introduced a three-pronged strategy to aid local public agencies (LPAs) through the complexities of delivering and administering Federal-aid projects.

The strategy focuses on:  Stakeholder Partnering (ensuring effective communication), Certification Programs (ensuring technical capabilities to manage projects) and Consultant Services Flexibilities (improving the quality and performance of contracted services.  The session will highlight examples that demonstrate the successful use of these LPA initiatives.

In order to ensure adequate accommodations, we ask that you RSVP by September 16th by email to Jim Stevenson at FHWA at  [email protected] .  Also, feel free to call Mr. Stevenson at 405-254-3300 with questions or to discuss this program.
