Traffic Incident Management EDC Exchange
Wednesday, June 19
11:30 am to 3 pm
Traffic incidents, including crashes, disabled vehicles and debris on the road create unsafe driving conditions; put motorists and responder lives at risk; and account for approximately 25 percent of all traffic delays. Traffic Incident Management (TIM), a product of the Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2), uses a multiple discipline perspective whereby, first responders within States, regions and localities learn how to operate more efficiently and collectively. This discussion will cover many topics, including recommended TIM procedures and techniques. Traffic Incident Management plays an important role in YOUR Safety Plan. Lunch will be served. Illinois River Restoration Project Tahlequah, OK Keeping erosion in check
Southern Plains TTAP attended a tour of the Illinois River Restoration Project near Tahlequah, OK on June 6, led by Dr. Jason Vogel, stormwater specialist at Oklahoma State University. Oklahoma Conservation Commission and Oklahoma State University (OSU) undertook a project to restore more than 6,500 feet of streambank, effectively reducing the amount of sediment in the system by more than 900 tons per year. OCC received $2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds through the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for the project.
"We directly reached more than 1,200 people through our outreach and education programs. As a result, we were able to connect people that need this type of work done with the people that can help them do it," said Dr. Vogel. A class covering the latest in erosion control techniques will be taught by Dr. Vogel at Southern Plains TTAP on September 10.

Tribal Transit Summitat CTAA 2013 June 3-4 in Albuquerque, NM
|
Tribes face many mobility challenges in accessing jobs, health care, shopping, education, and other essential services. The trips to these destinations can be long, and many tribal areas struggle with continuing adverse economic conditions, such as high unemployment.
Historically, resources to address these challenges have been limited, but innovative programs and funding can help build sustainable tribal transit services. Major changes under MAP-21 and FTA's Tribal Transit Grant Program were outlined at the conference.
