It is that time of year when the Southeastern Regional Relocation Council gears up for the 2014 SRRC Fall

Four Sites for Expats on International Assignment

International assignees face very different challenges than domestic transferees. There are more cultural differences, language barriers, and regulatory disparities, to name a few. Naturally, HR leaders, relocation managers, and relocation management companies strive to assist in the relocation process as much as possible. Pre-assignment assessments, preparation, and guidance throughout are a given, but it just isn't possible to walk assignees through every moment of their journey.

 

Luckily, there is a ton of robust, active, and helpful social networks and online resources that can provide extra support and guidance throughout an employee's expat experience. Many of these resources help to connect like-minded people living similar experiences. Member Spotlight

Marcia Buie 

 

Marcia Buie is Director Benefits Americas at Hilton Worldwide's global headquarters in McLean, VA.  She has been with Hilton Worldwide for just over 4 years and has oversight of the Team Member benefits and relocation programs.  This is Marcia's first professional role that includes managing relocation.  Her prior experience was as a USAF military brat who moved around the country for the first 18 years of her life with her family.  Marcia enjoys traveling, sailing, cooking, and spending time with her husband Scott and her other family and friends.


Shannon Barnes   

                                       

Shannon Barnes has spent her entire 24 year career in the relocation industry with Graebel. She started out as a Packer/surveyor right out of college and quickly transitioned into sales where she has been ever since. Shannon enjoys meeting with companies and helping them develop programs that successfully measure and manage a variety of outsourced relocation services. In the past several years her programs have provided millions of dollars of cost savings and program enhancements in industries such as healthcare, consumer products, manufacturing, financial services, internet services and more. Shannon received the Employee Relocation Council's designation as a Certified Relocation Professional (CRP) in 2001 and has been involved in many relocation organizations to keep current with the industry


Shannon is the proud mother of 3 children, 2 boys ages 11 and 10 and a little girl age 7. She currently lives in South Florida with her husband of 15 years


Tammy Vlah

 

In her role as Vice President, Director of Relocation, Tammy is responsible for increasing business, overseeing relocation activity & developing corporate business relationships. Tammy is committed to offering a wide array of programs designed to provide corporations the ability to customize their relocation options for domestic and international relocating employees. She holds her Florida Brokers License and the CRP designation.  Tammy brings more than 15 years of real estate and relocation experience to the Watson Relocation team allowing her individualized relocation assistance and legendary quality of service to be the cornerstone of her success.

Tammy was recently named by the Jacksonville Business Journal in the prestigious '40 Under 40' list. She is an active member of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), participating on the national Foundation & Scholarship Committee as well as serving as Vice President on the Board of Directors Executive Committee for SHRM Jacksonville.  In addition to holding memberships in Worldwide ERC, Relocation Director's Council and several other relocation focused group, Tammy is on the Advisory Council for RELO Direct. She is also an active contributor in the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce sitting on the Economic Development Committee.

Tammy relocated in 2005, as a trailing spouse, when her husband was offered an opportunity in Jacksonville where they currently reside with their beagle, Molly.  She also enjoys spending time with her niece and three nephews who keep her young at heart.

  Program Update

Don't miss the Fall 2014 conference on September 17th and 18th.  The theme will be "On the Road Again" to Global Mobility.  In addition to the popular Corporate Panel, industry leaders will be presenting some exciting sessions including: International Assignment Planning, Talent Management, Business Etiquette, Domestic Policy Trends, and Overcoming Florida's Real Estate Challenges.

SRRC Spring 2014 Conference - Looking Back

 

The SRRC Spring conference started off on a great foot with a corporate and service provider round table discussion which allowed us to learn more about industry trends and challenges in the different relocation areas.  After eating a nice lunch in the beautiful Gaylord Palms atrium your SRRC board got the party started with an exciting entrance to pump up the crow for the day's festivities.  Continue Reading
