An early Spring is in the air, and the month ahead is full of events culminating on Saturday April 9th with the 
New York Tartan Day Parade.

We invite Member and Friends of the Foundation to Come March with Us, or cheer us from the sidewalk.

The Parade steps off at 2pm from 44th Street and Sixth Avenue and continues up to 55th Street. Its not too long Parade... but just long enough! 

Prior to the Parade, between 11.15 and 1pm, ASF presents
The Pipes and Drums on the Fountain Terrace of Bryant Park,
this is two blocks from where we line up to march.

The Scots Who Built New York - Carnegie Legacy

The ASF is honored to joined the Landmarks 50 Project and to have be developing the Scots Who Built New York project that chronicles the impact Scots, and Scottish Americans have had in the developing of New York.  A series of talks have taken place, and this is the fourth in the series.

The Talk and Reception is presented in conjunction with Cooper Hewitt and celebrates The Carnegie Legacy, exploring Andrew Carnegie's enormous contribution to New York's architecture and heritage. 
 
Guests will be welcomed by  
Caroline Baumann, Director, Cooper Hewitt.

John Kinnear, Historian, Architect and President, American Friends of the Georgian Group, will give the illustrated talk.

Malcolm Roughead, OBE, Chief Executive, Visit Scotland will speak of  "Scotland Today" as Scotland celebrates 
"The Year of Architecture and Design" in 2016.

A Reception will follow in the Great Hall.
We request that guests arrive by 6:00pm. From 5:00pm guests are welcome to take a self-guided tour of the mansion.

The 18th Annual New York Tartan Day Parade is to be led by celebrated Scottish actor Sam Heughan, who will be the
Grand Marshal in the 2016 New York Tartan Day Parade taking place on Saturday, April 9th.


Sam Heughan is best known for his role as the 18th Century Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser in the STARZ hit series "Outlander." The series is adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books.

The National Tartan Day New York Committee has also announced Barbour Inc., the North American subsidiary of J. Barbour & Sons, Ltd., of Great Britain, as the new Platinum Sponsor of the Parade and of the Barbour Scottie and Westie Tartan Dog Pack.

Belhaven is host the Post Parade Party at Papillon.  Belhaven are undertaking a series of events throughout the City as the "Official Beer of the New York Tartan Day Parade Events". 

With all the recent excitement around "Outlander," we will not only be welcoming Sam Heughan on the day of the Parade as the Parade's Grand Marshall, but also
over 450 fans of the wildly popular television series who will be marching alongside us.

Alan Bain, Chairman of the American-Scottish Foundation is President of the New York Tartan Day Parade this year and noted -
"All of us involved are  grateful for the support and energy surrounding the day of festivities, and thrilled to have our Grand Marshal joining us in this celebration of Scottish roots and culture".
