As Summer arrives the American-Scottish Foundation is looking back at the hectic and wonderful Spring that the Scottish American community enjoyed, in particular the events surrounding Tartan Day 2015 and the New York Tartan Day Parade.
The New York Tartan Day Parade is organized by the National New York Tartan Day Committee which comprises The St Andrews Society of New York, the New York Caledonian Society, the American-Scottish Foundation and Clan Campbell.
ASF also joined the National Tartan Day Capital Committee as they celebrated Tartan Day in Washington DC.
Tartan Day takes place on April 6th each year. Below, ASF shares with you some of our Tartan Day events. We add a large thank you to all who helped in making it "happen".

Tartan Day Celebrations Across America
Each year on April 6th, and in the days surrounding, celebrations are held by Scottish Americans as we recognize National Tartan Day. The American-Scottish Foundation is a founding member of The Scottish Coalition USA, who through the efforts of many, spearheaded Tartan Day in its path through Congressional hearings to where elebrations take place throughout the United States.
This year Scotland Week, and the Tartan Day Celebrations were stronger than ever.
In New York on April 6th, Tartan Day was observed in New York with a Commemoration at Bryant Park as part of the ASF series of community concerts held daily during Scotland Week 2015.
From the Scotland Run, heralding the start of Scotland Week, to the 18th Annual Tartan Day Parade, there were events throughout the City.
Belhaven, the Official Beer of the Tartan Day Parade, held tastings and events throughout the city and together with the New York Tartan Day Parade, once again hosted the highly popular Post Parade Party at Stout with BarleyJuice having everyone dancing.
From Pittsburg to Washington D.C., to Longmont, Olympia and Alexandria VA, Tartan Day was celebrations took place in the days surrounding the official National Tartan Day of April 6th.
In New York the New York Tartan Day Parade is organized by the National New York Tartan Day Committee which comprises: the American-Scottish Foundation,
the St Andrews Society of New York, the New York Caledonian Club and Clan Campbell
In Washington DC, The National Tartan Day Capital Committee are the organizers of a series of events honoring April 6th.
Once again the NTDCC hosted the presentation of the National Tartan Day Award presented annually by The Scottish Coaliton USA.
The National Tartan Day Award was presented by Alan Bain, ASF Chairman and President of The Scottish Coalition to Marjorie Warren, for her outstanding support and efforts in the establishing of April 6th as National Tartan Day, for her untiring support of the textile and heritage crafts industries - both here and in Scotland.

A look back at the 17th Annual New York Tartan Day Parade which saw the air filled with the sound of bagpipes as New York celebrated its Scottish American heritage.
From the sounds of pipes and drums at the pre-parade concert at Bryant Park, to the Westies and Scotties of the Barbour Tartan Dog Pack, to the over 300 Outlander fans who joined us, the 18th Annual New York Tartan Day Parade was truelly a celebration of Scottish American heritage and pride.
The Parade was led by Grand Marshall, Graham McTavish, who alongside the Hon. Patricia Marwick, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament led the Parade up Sixth Avenue, and then greeted all taking part from atop Graylines double decker bus...
This year saw nine Scottish Universities marching in the Parade - a true statement of the ancient and modern coming together. We had many visitors with us from Scotland including the Lanark and District Pipe Band and the Oban High School Pipe Band, During their stay in New York both bands played at multiple events including joining ASF for concerts at Bryant Park and taking part in TV media events.
The New York Metro Pipe Band led ASF once again up the Avenue. ASF is very grateful to all who help us fulfill our role within the Tartan Day Parade and surrounding events.
A special thank you to our fellow organizations of St Andrews Society of the State of New York, The New York Caledonian Club and Clan Campbell, this is such a group effort to make all this happen.

Tartan Week Events at Bryant Park
April 6-12, 2015
Throughout Scotland Week, and prior to the Parade, we were able to enjoy a wonderful series of Lunchtime Concerts, taking place on the Fountain Terrace at Bryant Park. Featuring many Scottish American artists based in the New York area, the community concerts brought traditional pipes and drums and contemporary and Celtic music, readings and more. The concerts added wonderful spirit to the festivities of the week.
We are grateful for the wonderful support of the Bryant Park Corporation, all our artists and sponsors for helping to make it happen, with a special acknowledgement to Hannah Read for helping to coordinate the program with ASF.
Musicians and groups of the weekday performances included Scottish Octopus, Hannah Read, John Gribbin, Lanark & District Pipe Band, Craig Weir, Mike Ogletree Anacoustic Mind, Jenna Moynihan & Friends, Shot of Scotch Highland Dancers, Matthew Zajec and Aden O'Rourke, and Oban High School Pipes & Drums.
On April 6th a Commemoration of Tartan Day was held with readings given by Kenneth Donnelly and Alan Bain, together with piping from Patrick Duffy and the national anthems from the Highland Divas
Prior to the Tartan Day Parade on Saturday April 11th, a wonderful selection of Pipes and Drums from both Scotland and the US provided pre-parade spirit, including Lanark & District Pipe Band, the Pipes and Drums of the Atlantic Watch, the Bonnie Brae Knights, and Shamrock & Thistle Pipes and Drums of Ocean County.
