After a Winter that has not wanted to let up, could we be seeing a glimmer of Spring on the horizon...

The Year of Homecoming is now here and the celebrations on both sides of the Atlantic will soon be in full swing.  Scotland Tartan Week is two weeks away... the countdown to the New York Tartan Day Parade on Saturday April 5th is on.

It is going to be BUSY this Spring ...
We have several wonderful projects and events upcoming and are excited to share the news with you ...

As we have said before, we cannot do all we do without your help and support.

Kind regards,

Camilla

Camilla G Hellman, MBE,
Executive Director
Bryant Park welcomes The Kelpies to New York as the City gears up for Scotland Week and the Tartan Day Parade on April 5th.

A year ago Andy Scott, sculptor and creator of The Kelpies, sat with Alan Bain and Camilla Hellman on the Fountain Terrace of Bryant Park and began to envision and plan how to bring the Kelpie maquettes to New York.

In the following months the idea was embraced by the New York Parks Department of Monuments and Bryant Park.  Andy Scott travelled to New York four times for discussions ... and one year later, just after midnight on March 21st, the Kelpies took up residence for the next month on the Fountain Terrace of Bryant Park, at 40th Street and Sixth Avenue, in the shadow of New York Public Library.

The Kelpie maquettes are the scale models, the "babies" of the 100ft Kelpies recently completed in Falkirk, Scotland by Scottish sculptor Andy Scott. Standing 15ft tall they will be on view, in Bryant Park, through April 22nd.

Between April 4th - 8th, during Scotland Week, a series of concerts will take place at lunchtime - with the New York Tartan Day Parade on Saturday April 5th stepping off at 2pm from 44th and Sixth Avenue... two blocks north of the Kelpies...

Dan Biederman, President of Bryant Park Corporation, said: "It is a great pleasure to work with the American Scottish Foundation and the Scottish Government to host these sculptures and the week of special performances around them in Bryant Park. The park is one of the busiest public spaces in the world and a perfect location for showcasing arts and culture."

About ASF

The mission of The American-Scottish Foundation®, an international not-for-profit organization, is to establish links and strengthen ties between Scotland and the United States, through the pursuit of contemporary social, cultural, educational, and business activities.

The mission remains as relevant today as when ASF was founded in 1956 by Lord Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton - to champion the extraordinary relationship between the peoples of Scotland and the United States - a bridge between the two great countries - seeking to strengthen & support the future of the Scottish American diaspora, and its legacy.
