Robert Burns
|
We hope you will join us as we start 2013 off with a bang! The ASF's 18th Annual Celebration of Robert Burns takes place on Friday, January 18th.
Members and Friends of the Foundation are invited to one of our most unique and beloved annual events. Held in association with the University Club, it will transport you across the Atlantic to Bonny Scotland!
In fact, if you are in Scotland on January 25th - which is Burns' actual Birthday - you will see that it has become a second national day (after St. Andrew's Day) as Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet is celebrated, with Burns Suppers held in homes and venues all over the country.
The first Burns supper was held in Scotland in 1802, and the format of Burns suppers has changed little since, including the ceremonial piping and cutting of the haggis; when Burns's famous "Address to a Haggis" is read and the haggis is cut open.
The countdown is on for New York City's Tartan Day Parade which marches up Sixth Avenue on Saturday, April 6th. If you have not yet registered to march, sign-up information is noted below. ASF has many events planned, and the calendar is filling with ours, and fellow organizations', celebrations of Scottish pride and heritage. Our website will carry regular updates. Kind regards, Camilla G. Hellman, MBE - Director of Development
