The ASF wishes you a happy St. Andrew's Day!
It is now officially the start of the Holiday season! We have enjoyed Thanksgiving here in the United States, Christmas is just around the corner, andHogmany issoon to follow in Scotland. Before we know it, 2013 will be here! As the clocks strike midnight all over the world, we will of course sing Auld Lang Syne, which was written by Robert Burns as a poem in 1788, and set to a traditional folk song.
Along with the Holiday Season, comes the annual celebration of Robert Burns. This year, ASF commemorates the 253rd Anniversary of Burns' Birth with its annual Burns Night - We do hope you will be able to join us on Friday, January 18th for a wonderful and lively evening in tribute to Scotland's national bard.
Plans are under way for many events and programs in 2013 and beyond - and as we look forward to the Spring, please join us on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 for the Tartan Day Parade and the 15th Anniversary celebration of the passage of Senate Resolution 155 which created National Tartan Day.
Best wishes,
Camilla G. Hellman, MBE

St Andrew's Day!
On November 30th the world celebrates St Andrew's Day, Scotland's national day. There will be parties galore in Scotland, events around the world. St Andrew became the patron saint of Scotland approximately 1000 years ago. The cross on which he died forms the basis of the Saltire Flag.
If you're reading this email in Scotland, it's your lucky day... Since November 30th 1996, when the Stone of Destiny was returned to Scotland and housed in Edinburgh Castle it has been decreed that the Castle shall be open with free entry on every St Andrew's Day - in perpetuity - to allow the people of Scotland to view the fabled Stone. Drop by the castle today!
