As our communities begin to recover following Hurricane Sandy, we would like to communicate that our thoughts are with all those who have been negatively impacted by this devastating event.
In this E-News, we bring you information on post-Sandy volunteer initiatives throughout the City including with the Department of Parks & Recreation to help clean-up and restore the City's parks.
And, as we try to help our communities regain strength after the storm, we hope you may be able to join us at some of our upcoming events: Curry Club, Burns Night and, looking forward to next Spring, please join us on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 for the Tartan Day Parade and the 15th Anniversary celebration of the passage of Senate Resolution 155 which created National Tartan Day.
We would like to thank all those who helped make our Friday, November 9th Wallace Award ® Dinner, last Friday, such a memorable evening. A selection of images from the event are now available on our website.
The ASF wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!Camilla G. Hellman, MBE Director of Development, The American-Scottish Foundation®

ASF Launches Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort
On Friday, November 9th at our Wallace Award® Dinner, ASF launched its Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort, in aid of our regional American Scottish Community suffering hardship due to the storm. A portion of the evening's proceeds, a benefit for ASF in partnership with The Archie Foundation, will now be assigned to the ASF Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort.
Members of The Archie Foundation who came over from Aberdeen to run in the NYC Marathon, which was cancelled, witnessed first hand the total devastation Sandy had caused to a Staten Island community in which they volunteered.
With the holiday season upon us, we are particularly focused on providing aid and comfort to our region's children and young people. If your American Scottish Community has suffered due to the storm, please contact us at: asfevents@wwbcny.com

Volunteer, and help NYC recover from Hurricane Sandy
The impact of Hurricane Sandy has left an indelible mark on New York City's parks, playgrounds, beaches, and neighborhoods. Thousands of trees fell across the City. In the Rockaways, entire sections of the beloved boardwalk are no more. In parts of Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens, entire coastal communities were damaged by massive tidal forces.
In response to the impact of the storm, NYC Service has many volunteer oppotunities with: NYC Parks, Red Cross, Red Hook Initative, UJA Federation of New York, New York Cares and the New York Blood Center.
If you would like to volunteer your time, please register online at www.nyc.gov/service.
