Thought for the week

The question many in my country are now asking is this: will America apply its principles consistently and win this war, or will it selectively abandon these principles and thereby ultimately risk losing the war?

Redding Reloading Equipment is offering unique and highly effective Dual Ring Carbide Sizing dies in a variety of straight wall cartridge sets. Redding is offering the dies in upgraded Standard Sets plus Pro Series and Competition Pro Series Sets as well. Pulsar's new Apex 1.5-6x32 XD38A Thermal Riflescope is engineered with cutting-edge "white hot" and "black hot" thermal technology. Designed with a thermal core resolution of 384x288, LCD display and a 50hz frame rate, the Apex 1.5-6x32 XD38A offers vivid imaging and precision placement at more than 1,000 yards. The continuous digital zoom allows for an extended range of magnification and closer view on any size game. The internal dampening system keeps the thermal core stable up to 1,000Gs of recoil, equivalent to a .375 H&H bolt-action rifle. Its picture-in-picture digital zoom displays a magnified picture of the reticle's aiming point at the top of the screen. In additional the APEX features 10 variable electronic reticles for different shooting applications. The riflescope's one-shot zeroing and freeze function takes an image of the prey to quickly zero the crosshairs to the firearm's point of impact. The device includes 3 operating modes for enhanced contrast, and three calibration modes.

The SCP-LS289S Green Bulldot Laser is the newest innovation from Leapers UTG in Michigan. The concept entails placing a larger than average laser dot, diameter-wise, on target, allowing for quicker acquisition under stress. The larger laser dot expands to 8" @ 50 yards and 12" @ 100 yards, and, with the inherent higher visibility of a green laser, it makes the LS289S an ideal companion for pistols, carbine or shotguns under a wide range of scenarios. The LS289S boasts accurate windage and elevation adjustment capable of holding zero even under the harshest recoil. It is made entirely out of aircraft grade aluminum and anodized in black matte for superior wear resistance. The integral Mil-STD. 1913 (Picatinny) rail mounting interface easily and quickly locks down into place with the included tool. MSRP: $119.97

Please Don't Thank Me for My Service

David A. Lombardo

I'm writing this on Memorial Day, the day as a nation we honor those who have died while serving in our armed forces. Over 1,354,000 members of the U.S. armed forces have died in the line of duty; another 1,498,000 have been wounded; almost 41,000 have never been accounted for; and an unimaginable number live daily with ghosts of the past sitting on their shoulders.

I joined the Army a year after high school graduation, volunteered to go to Vietnam and was assigned to a medical unit of the First Infantry Division. Wars are fought by kids; I celebrated my 20th birthday a few weeks after arriving in Vietnam. We all saw things that no 20-something kid should ever have to see. I learned that all wars are fought by frightened people who'd rather be somewhere else but rise to the occasion and do what has to be done.

This morning as I shuffled down the driveway to get the morning paper, a neighbor shouted, "Thank you for your service!" I waved, muttered "thanks" and scurried back inside. You see, I've never been comfortable when people thank me for my service. I didn't do it to be thanked; I did it because I believed then, as I do now, that it was the right thing to do. And the truth is, the United States Army took in a 19-year-old kid with an attitude and taught him to be a good citizen. The military has a funny way of doing that, and most kids today will never have that experience. So please don't thank me for it, and I say that without any rancor whatsoever.

Rather than thanking me for my service, I'd ask that you teach your kids what they would have gotten had they gone in the Army instead.

First of all, members of the U.S. military don't start wars; they just go where they're told to go and do what they're told to do. Guess who makes those decisions? That dopey, hopey, changy guy in the White House; your youthful ideals made you vote for him, so now you can live with it.

Here's another one. Cops are just your neighbors trying to sort out how to make day-to-day life safer for you and your family. Sure, they get it wrong sometimes, but so do surgeons, priests and carpenters. In 20 years in law enforcement, I never once heard a cop say, "Let's go violate that guy's civil rights."

Learn to respect others and their right to have an opinion contrary to yours. You may not like it, but who are you to decide what's appropriate and what isn't? You don't like it when someone does it to you, so what makes you think you have the right to do it to someone else?

Recognize that while you have a right to dress as you wish, if you show up for a job interview looking like a cat just dragged you in, you're not going to get the job. It's not discrimination; it's good taste on the part of the employer. And while I'm on the subject, the damn bill of the cap goes forward and your pants are supposed to be around your waist. Nobody, and I mean nobody at all, anywhere, wants to see your underwear let alone your butt crack.

Get it straight in your head that your inability to make the money you think you're worth isn't anyone's fault but your own. Remember how you said school was stupid and they didn't have anything to teach you? Well, these are the fruits of your labor or lack thereof. Nobody owes you squat.

Stop expecting the world to give you free stuff and go earn enough money to buy what you want yourself. That's not a racist attitude; that's someone who works for a living fed up with supporting you because you're too lazy to support yourself.

Here's a news flash: looting and rioting is never acceptable behavior. Not after your home team wins or when some dirt-bag is greased by law enforcement while in the process of committing an armed robbery.

And my personal bugaboo: show some respect for the Stars and Stripes. It's what lies under Old Glory that gives you the opportunity to do whatever you wish even if you're too stupid to understand it. And while you have a First Amendment right to walk on Old Glory, you may well discover others exercise their right to kick your ass for doing it.

And finally, if you're a teenager and you want to run off to be a freedom fighter and join ISIS, please give me a call, and I'll personally buy you an airline ticket. Clearly your end of the gene pool needs a big dose of bleach.

Bloomberg Moms to Stage Nationwide

Anti-Second Amendment Protest

Richard Pearson, Executive Director of the Illinois State Rifle Association, has brought to light the latest Bloomberg stunt. According to Pearson the Bloomberg Moms and several other gun-grabbing groups will be staging a nationwide publicity stunt on Tuesday, June 2nd in an attempt to sway public opinion against lawful gun owners. Organizers of this publicity stunt are encouraging gun-grabbers to wear orange clothing on June 2nd as an outward symbol of their contempt for the 2nd Amendment. Additionally gun-grab groups are desecrating our nation's flag by distributing lapel pins that depict the American flag all in varying shades of orange. This is a sickening example of exploiting our nation's flag for the gun-grabbers' political purpose. Pearson suggests the following action:

1. If you see anyone wearing orange on June 2nd, confront them and tell them that you are a law-abiding firearm owner and that you will vigorously defend your rights. If you see them wearing an orange flag lapel pin, scold them for desecrating our flag - the flag for which so many Americans have died.

2. On June 2nd be sure to wear camo, IGOLD yellow or ISRA/NRA clothing to show your support for the 2nd Amendment.

3. Be sure to post this alert to any and all blogs, bulletin boards or social media sites to which you belong.

4. Be sure to pass this alert on to your family and friends.

Smart Gun Company Touted By Dems

Files Chapter 11

On May 20th smart gun manufacturer Armatix admitted they have entered into chapter 11-style restructuring proceedings in Germany. Armatix makes the iP1 smart gun, which Democrats raved about and pushed to mandate as the only gun that could legally be sold in New Jersey in 2014. Democrats were joined in this effort by gun control groups like the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The iP1 is only chambered in .22 long rifle and costs $1800 per gun. The .22 LR is a meager round for self-defense, coupled with a price tag that is over three times the amount Americans pay for a .45 caliber Glock and nearly four times the amount Americans pay for a .38 Special polymer revolver from Ruger.

In addition to these things, the iP1 is synchronized with a watch and will not fire unless in the hands of the person wearing the watch. Breitbart News has previously reported that this is not all that smart. The Brady Campaign's smart gun push met stiff resistance, and Armatix is now in "chapter 11-style restructuring."

According to Fortune magazine this news comes after Ernst Mauch, Armatix's co-managing director and head of technical operations, "abruptly parted ways with the company" on April 20th. "Mauch is an eminent weapons designer who had worked for more than 30 years for Germany's Heckler & Koch, and his presence at Armatix had leant the company technical credibility."

Although an Armatix spokesperson describes the "chapter 11-style" proceedings as "a corporate restructuring, not an insolvency proceeding," and said the company "will continue operations and does not anticipate any changes to its majority shareholders," Armatix did cancel a planned presentation to a "smart gun technology fair" this past week in New Rochelle, New York. Illinois: Bill to Increase Opportunities for

Hunters Needs Your Help

Recently Senate Bill 1422 was amended to increase opportunities for hunters. SB 1422, as amended in the House, would expand hunting opportunities in the collar counties by allowing the use of crossbows during the deer archery season. Sponsored by Senator Neil Anderson (R-36), SB 1422 passed the House as amended by a 103 - 12 vote on May 21, 2015. SB 1422 now awaits a concurrence motion on House Amendment 1 in the Senate Agriculture Committee.

Experience in other states has shown that allowing the use of crossbows during hunting seasons helps retain and recruit hunters and does not have a higher success rate over vertical bows. NRA has always supported expanding hunting opportunities when there is no biological reason to oppose them. Use of crossbows would also allow young hunters who do not yet possess the physical strength to use a vertical bow to go afield earlier, and as a result, they would be more likely to recruit more family and friends into Illinois' ranks of hunters.

Please call State Senator John Sullivan (D-47), chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, at 217-782-2479 and urge a concurrence motion on House Amendment 1 to SB 1422. [Source: NRA/ILA]

NSSF Opposed Bill to Abolish ATF

The liberal Center for American Progress last week called for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to be abolished and for its law enforcement and regulatory responsibilities to be turned over to the FBI. The report followed the introduction of legislation to accomplish these actions authored by U.S. Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.). As has been the case when this proposal had been advanced in prior years, NSSF is opposed to these actions. NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Larry Keane told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "ATF has regulated the firearms industry for decades. It would be very disruptive and costly to our industry to have to begin dealing with a new, unfamiliar regulatory agency." [Source: NSSF]
